CAs’ body seeks extension in last date for filing VAT, other returns

Excelsior Correspondent
JAMMU, Sept 24:  The  J&K Branch of  Chartered Accountants has appealed  to the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Commissioner of Commercial Taxes to extend the last date for filing of various returns under J&K VAT Act, GST Act, obtaining and filing of VAT Audit Report to March 31, 2015.
Keeping in view the prevailing situation following worst ever natural calamity that inflicted a huge loss of human life and property, it has become almost impossible for us to meet up the various statutory compliances of the tax returns, the branch explained in an appeal, a copy of which was submitted to the Chief Minister as well as office of the Commissioner of Commercial Taxes.
The appeal has been jointly issued by the J&K branch Chairman Vikram Garg and executive members Shalay Razdan, Anil Sharma and Deepak Kapahi.
While pointing out that the Central Board of Direct Taxes, GoI, has already postponed the date of filing Income Tax returns, audit returns, payments of Advance taxes etc by the assesses of J&K, the body of Chartered Accountants explained that it is only after the State returns to being normal, the assesses could be in a position to get their records compiled.
Since the audit can be conducted only on proper reconstruction of the records and financial statements, which would take a substantial time due to destruction of data and infrastructure,  the date for filing of various returns therefore should be extended to March 31, 2015, the CAs body said.
