JAMMU, Sept 26: The Second Computer Society of India (CSI) J&K State Student Convention today got underway at the Model Institute of Engineering and Technology (MIET). The theme of the convention is “Cloud Computing and Innovation”.
Prof RK Vyas, Regional Vice President, Region I, CSI was the chief guest on the occasion while Prof MN Hoda Chairperson, Division I, CSI, and Director, BVICAM and Prof Sameru Sharma, Dean Engineering University of Jammu and Principal GCET were the guests of honour. Prof Simi Dutta, Head, Computer Science GCET was the special guest.
EMC2 Private Limited, the world’s leading IT company in storage technology and cloud computing is the technical partner for the event and shall conduct a special 2 day workshop and certification on cloud computing for 100 students as part of the convention.
Principal, MIET, retd Major General Prof SK Sharma presented the welcome address.
Prof Salim Qureshi, Head, Computer Science Department at MIET presented an overview of the convention. EMC2 operates a Storage Academy at MIET under which MIET students get trained an industry-relevant curriculum on cloud computing and storage technologies, he added.
Prof Ankur Gupta, Joint Director, MIET in his address showcased the highly innovative cloud-based analytics platform adopted by MIET for quality and performance management. He further presented plans for rapid adoption of cloud technology by MIET including the deployment of a private cloud at MIET in the next six months.
Prof MN Hoda presented the certificate of accreditation by CSI to MIET which is valid till 2016.
Prof Sameru Sharma presented an overview of the evolution of the cloud computing industry.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof RK Vyas, opined that engineering institutions need to become practicing institutions and not academic institutions alone with a focus on applications.
In the end, Mekhla Sharma, CSE, MIET presented the formal vote of thanks.
Later, several events for students including poster presentation, C++ debugging contest and seminar presentations were held in which over 150 students from all across the region participated.
