JAMMU, Sept 26: Jammu Municipal Corporation in its drive against the menace of adulteration in the commonly used food items, smoking in public places, ban on use of polythene bags, on the eve of holy Navratras wherein a team of Food Safety Officers, conducted tour and seized polythene and realized fine, today.
The team of Assistant Sanitation Officers, Sanitary Inspectors & other field staff of Health & Sanitation wing under the supervision of Health Officer JMC, Dr Mohd Saleem Khan conducted an extensive tour in the areas like Bahu-Fort, Gandhi Nagar, Narwal, Digiana, Gangyal, Kunjwani, Railway Station, BC Road, Raghunath Bazar, Janipur, Bantalab, Akhnoor Road etc of Jammu City today to check the quality of commonly used food items & inspected the various food establishments including restaurants, cooked food dhabas, tea stalls, halwai shops, fruit juice corners, rehries and ice cream corners/ rehries.
About 52 Kgs of polythene was seized and a compounding fee of Rs 29,400 was realized on spot from defaulters.
About 30 kgs of stale cooked food, 45 Kgs of sweetmeats and 30 pieces of chipped crockery were also destroyed on spot which were kept under unhygienic conditions and found not fit for human consumption.
Moreover, two food samples of Darau Atta were also lifted from Gangyal & Exchange Road in view of Navratras and sent to Food Analyst Jammu for ascertaining their standard of purity.
Besides this, 16 persons were booked under COTP Act 2003 and a fine of Rs 2300 was also realized on spot from defaulters. During the round citizens were advised not to smoke in the public places as it is injurious to health, a fine of Rs 200 would be imposed to those not adhering to the norms.
