PG Deptt sails into Women’s final, GDC Kathua in Men’s

JAMMU, Oct 4: PG Department and Government Degree College (GDC) Kathua entered into the finals of Inter Collegiate Badminton (Men and Women) Tournament in Women and Men’s category, respectively by beating their opponents in the semifinal matches played in the Gymnasium Hall, University of Jammu.
The Tournament is being organized by Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu.
In Women’s semifinal, two matches were played. In 1st semifinal, PG Department beat Government College for Women (GCW) Gandhi Nagar by 2-0. In 1st Singles, Prabjot Kour thrashed Suvidha Kjajuria by 21-12, 21-10  while in Doubles, Prabjot Kour and Akanksha Raina defeated Suvidha and Pritbha by 21-5, 21-10.
In 2nd semifinal, GGM Science College beat GDC Billawar by 2-0. In 1st Singles, Diksha thrashed Pooja Sharma by 21-10, 21-14 while in Doubles, Diksha and Sunali defeated Aysla and Monika by 21-3, 21-7.
In Men’s section also, two semifinals were played. In 1st semifinal, GDC Kathua beat GDC Samba by 3–0. In 1st Singles, Avishek Gupta defeated Rajinder Kumar by 21-12, 21-8 while in 2nd Singles, Rohit Verma thrashed Jitesh Kumar by 21-12, 19-21, 21-9. In Doubles, Avishek and Rohit beat Rajinder and Jitesh by 21-15, 21-8.
In 2nd semifinal, MAM College beat The Law School by 3 – 1. In 1st Singles, Arjun lost to Chander Dev 21-15, 17-21, 19-21 while in 2nd Singles, Irfan Hussain thrashed Anurag by 21-15, 11-21, 21-16. In Doubles, Arjun and Irfan defeated Chander Dev and Anurag by 21-11, 21-16. In 3rd Singles, Nikhil got walkover from Yash Vardhan Singh.
In finals, PG Department will face GGM Science College in Women’s category while GDC Kathua will play against MAM College in Men’s category.
All the matches were officiated by Ravish Vaid, Vikram Jamwal, Amit Shama and Manmohan Sharma.
All the matches were organized under the direct supervision of Prof Dhian S Bhau, Director, Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu, Jammu.
