JAMMU, Oct 9: Three-day Khadi Gram Udyog Mela commenced at Government SPMR College of Commerce, here today.
The Mela was organized by NSS unit of College. Dr Vaid Ghai who was the chief guest on the occasion inaugurated the event.
In her inaugural address, Dr Ghai shared her views on imbibing the principles of Gandhian Philosophy to lead a happy and harmonious life. She stressed upon the youth to come forward in disseminating the message of love and peace among the different sections of society.
Principal, Dr Satinder Singh in his presidential address appealed to the students and the staff to promote the message to purchase at least one Khadi and Handicraft product. He said that more demand for such products shall not only increase the income of persons associated with, but shall also increase the employment opportunity of the people living in rural areas.
The proceeding of the inaugural function was conducted by NSS Volunteer Jagmeet Kour and Pargat Singh. The programme was organised under the supervision of programme officers, Prof Pawan Gupta and Prof Mamta Gupta.
Earlier in the day, a guest lecture by Dr Aruna Verma, Associate Prof PSM Government Medical College, Jammu, was organised by the college for the students and staff in which the resource person spoke about the common problems faced by the students in general and girls in particular. She also spoke on issues like good eating habit, sexually transmitted diseases, drug abuse and making sports as a way of life.
