JAMMU, Oct 12: Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control, Sham Lal Sharma today inaugurated a newly constructed tube well, Water Supply Schemes (WSS) under National Rural Drinking Water Programme (NRDWP) NTS at Rajwal.
He also inaugurated newly constructed Panchayat Ghar, Niabat at Kainka Jagir.
It was apprised that the tube well has been constructed at Rs.235.21 lakh while Rs.20 lakh have been incurred on the construction of Panchayat Ghar building. The total estimated cost of Water Supply Scheme and other allied works is to be Rs.235.21 lakh. The modern type Panchayat Ghar has been constructed over an area of 4 kanals land.
At Rajwal after inaugurating the tube well, Sham addressing the public meeting and said that with commissioning of this WSS a population of 2500 souls of Rajwal and adjoining villages would get drinking water facilities. He was informed that Rs.92 lakh has been incurred on WSS till date. He asked the PHE authorities to lay water supply pipes in uncovered areas and urged the people to use drinking water judiciously. He appealed the people as well as locals representatives to cooperate with the executive agencies for better and effective implementation of development programmes and schemes in gross root levels.
The Minster said the Government has implemented a number of PHE schemes to provide safe drinking water every citizens of the State particularly of remote and hilly areas.
Later, the Minister inaugurated panchayat building and niabat at Kainka Jagir and said that the Government has already empowered the Panchayati Raj Institutions with an aim to strength monitoring of the developmental works.
The Minister while highlighting the importance of proper infrastructure for carrying out the day-to-day activities of PRIs, said that the some would be strengthened in every nook and corner of the state in order to facilitate their working and ensure that democratic decentralization of powers takes place in the state at every level. He said PRIs are the basic democratic institutions which can transform the development scenario as they are connected with the local people and well acquainted with the ground situation. He also stressed upon the panchayat members to work with more dedication and honesty to implementation of various developmental programmes.
Earlier, the Minister inaugurated Pawan Memorial Cricket tournament at GHSS, Boys Akhnoor organized by Singh Cricket Club Akhnoor.
