Army celebrating ‘Defenders of Ladakh (1947): Remembrance Day’

JAMMU, Oct 16: To commemorate the bravery and courage of the Indian Army and the people of Ladakh in 1947 against the Pakistani raiders, the Fire and Fury Corps  is celebrating  ‘Defenders of Ladakh (1947) : Remembrance Day’ at the newly constructed picturesque Col Sonam Wangchuk, MVC Stadium near Shanti Stupa, Leh.
As part of the celebrations, a T-20 Cricket Tournament, Polo Tournament, Archery Competition and Tent Pegging Competition between the teams of the Ladakh Region are being organized from October 15, 2014.
A Marathon run will also be organized on October 26, 2014.
The opening ceremony of the T-20 Cricket Tournament was presided over by Brigadier SS Dhadwal, Station Commander, Leh.
A gala performance by the Pipe Band of Ladakh Scouts, a cultural programme and Lion dance by SOS, TCV (Choglamsar) and a March Past by the eight cricket teams was the highlight of the event.
The first T-20 match was played between teams of Ladakh Scouts and Exide Club which was won by Ladakh Scouts by 18 runs.
In the 2nd match played between Friends Club and the Servo Club, Servo Club won by 25 runs.
The finals of T-20 Cricket Tournament will be played on October 19, 2014.
