Chib seeks private sector’s involvement in promotion of sports

SRINAGAR, July 22: Defeating AB Cricket Fighters in the summit clash, by a convincing margin Sir Sayeed Memorial School (SSMS) lifted the title trophy in Shehar-e-Khas T-20 Cricket Tournament at Kashmir University ground, here today.
Minister for Medical Education, Youth Services and Sports R S Chib was the chief guest on the occasion.
The 9-day Cricket Tournament was organized by All India Centre for Urban & Rural Development (AICURD), a local NGO in collaboration with J&K State Sports Council and Army in which 7 teams from Shehar-e-Khas participated.
Electing to bat first after winning the toss, SSMS scored a modest total of 123 runs in 19 overs, while in reply, AB Cricket Fighters bundled out for100 runs, thus lost the match by 23 runs.
Speaking on the occasion, Chib complimented the organizers for holding the event to tap the budding cricket talent at local level and groom them for their participation at national and international levels. The Minister sought involvement of private sector for the promotion of sports in the State. He announced one cricket kit to each team participated in the tournament.
Later, the Minister gave away trophy and cash prize of Rs 30,000 to the winners and Rs 20,000 to runner-up team.  Best performers of the tournament were also given cash prizes.
