Fake currency seized, two arrested

THANE, July 23: Two people were arrested after counterfeit currency, worth over Rs 5 lakh, was seized from them, police said today.

Police Inspector A Nirmal of the Kalyan railway police station said it was during weekend, three people alighted from the Patna-Kurla Rajendra Nagar Express at Kalyan station at about 2200 hrs.

The policemen found their movements quite suspicious and when they stopped them, one of them made good his escape.

Later, police nabbed the two, with bags in their hands. police said.

Police found in their bags currency note bundles of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 denomination, which were found to be fake.

The accused were  Saidul Ali Saifad Ali Saifi (24), from Jharkand and Rakin Ali Yard Ali Saifi (32) of West Bengal.

The duo have been booked under sections 489 (a) and 489 (C) of the IPC for possessing counterfeit notes and hunt is on for the third person, police said.

Police said they were trying to ascertain the source of these notes and where they were bound for in Mumbai. (UNI)
