JAMMU, Nov 2: Institution of Electronics and Telecommuni-cation Engineers (IETE) Jammu Centre today celebrated the 61st foundation day at its newly inaugurated office at building no-1 Sundar Nagar Talab-Tillo, here today.
On this occasion, Professor Rajnikant, Rector, Ramnagar Campus and Professor of Physics, University of Jammu was the chief guest while Major General (Retd.) S K Sharma, AVSM, Principal MIET, was the guest of honour.
The theme of today’s function was “Leveraging ICTs for Building Smart Cities”.
While welcoming the gathering, Dr Rakesh Vaid, Chairman, IETE Jammu Centre, in his inaugural address introduced the topic and threw light on the concept of smart cities, which he said must integrate state of the art green technologies to create a city that is both sustainable and can deliver high living standards.
Prof Rajnikant gave a illuminating presentation on the topic “X-rays in the service of Humanity” In his talk he covered many useful properties of X-rays for the human beings as well as for the materials.
Maj General Sharma, in his presidential remarks focused on various parameters essential for making our cities really smart. He said, in future our cities may also be certified as per ISO certifications as is now done in other fields.
Dr. Parveen Lehana, secretary of the IETE Jammu Centre read the message received from the president IETE, New Delhi, Smriti Dagur on the same theme.
Deepika Sharma, treasure IETE Jammu centre presented the vote of thanks while the proceedings of the programme were conducted by Er Sonakshi Sudan.
Prominent among those present were Joy Ganjoo, Er. Samir Sharma, Dr. Ravender Tickoo ( GGM Science College), Dr. Suresh Rao, Dr. Lalit Sen, Dr. Sumeet Gupta (SMVDU), Dr. Romilla Malla Bhat, Dr. Sandeep Arya, Er. Manoj Gupta (GCET), besides many faculty members from MIET, student members of IETE, research scholars from the department of Physics and Electronics, University of Jammu.
