Night temperature drops further, Leh coldest with minus 8.1

SRINAGAR :  People continued to shiver in Leh  and Kargil where the minimum temperature dropped further and settled at minus 8.1 degree and minus 5.2 degree respectively, coldest in the winter so far.
Famed health resort of Pahaglam and world famous ski resort of Gulmarg besides frontier Kupwara recorded below freezing point night temperature while Srinagar also witnessed drop in the minimum temperature.
A Met department spokesman said the weather will remain dry in Jammu and Kashmir during the next 24 hours due to which the night temperature will drop further during the next 24 hours.    Though sun was out in the valley, icy cold winds  continued, forcing people to wear warm clothes and use different gadgets for heating purpose.
Leh in Ladakh region, where polling in four  constituencies will take place on November 25, recorded coldest night of the season after the mercury dropped to minus 8.1 degree, a notch below coldest recorded yesterday.
Kargil, a border town on Srinagar-Leh highway, which was put through today after four days closure, also recorded coldest night after the minimum temperature dropped to minus 5.2 degree against earlier coldest of minus 4.6 degree recorded yesterday.    All water bodies remained frozen in the region, where electioneering is going on for November 25 polling  despite chill.
Pahalgam, a health resort in south Kashmir recorded minus 2.8 degree, about four notches below normal while at Gulmarg it was minus 2 degree, about three degree below normal.    Kupwara in north Kashmir, where three Army personnel, including a JCO and porter were killed under a snow avalanche in Shasmbari range near LoC after upper reaches experienced snowfall, also recorded coldest night of the season. The mercury fell to minus 1.3, more than three degree below normal.    Qazigund gateway of Kashmir and Kokernag in south Kashmir also witnessed drop in the temperature because of open sky.    Srinagar, where people woke up to a clear sky also  recorded 1.4 degree minimum temperature, a notch below normal.
