JAMMU, Nov 12: Continuing the drive against smuggling of intoxicants in the holy town Katra, police today arrested a narcotic smuggler and a woman bootlegger in two separate incidents.
As per police sources, a police team from Katra police station laid a naka near village Bhagta and intercepted a van bearing registration number JKO3C-7925.
On seeing the police party, the driver of the van tried to escape, but was chased and nabbed by the active police cops from Katra police station.
During checking, police recovered 950 grams of charas and arrested the narcotic smuggler, who has been identified as Irfan Ahmed, son of Gulam Nabi, a resident of Pahalgam, Kashmir.
A case under FIR number 248/14 under Section 8/20 Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered at Katra police station and investigation started.
Meanwhile, Katra police during checking of a bus at Nomian check-post arrested a woman bootlegger along with 15 pouches of illicit liquor. The accused has been identified as Mehtreen Bai, wife of Babu Lal, a resident of Madhya Pradesh, at present Tatal Tillo.
A case under FIR number 249/14 under Section 48-A Excise Act and 188 RPC has been registered against the woman bootlegger at Katra police station and investigation started.
Police team led by SHO Katra police station Ajay Bhatt made the arrests under the supervision of SP Katra Kulbir Singh.
