POONCH, Nov 15: Alert Surankote police foiled a major attempt of bovines smuggling to Kashmir valley via Mughal Road and rescued 14 cattle with the arrest of three persons this evening.
The truck bearing registration No.JK02AQ, loaded with 14 bovine animals started from Beli Charana in Jammu in the morning and `managed’ to cross all the police nakas at Domana, Akhnoor, Chowki Chora, Sunderbani, Nowshera, Rajouri and Thanamandi. As it reached at Behramgalla in Bafliaz area of Surankote, the police party intercepted the truck. The driver Mohd Javed, son of Gul Mohd hailing from Banihal told the cops on duty that he was carrying ration to Kashmir and it was well covered under ‘Tarpal’. The police insisted for checking and found 14 bovine animals loaded in the truck. The legs of all the cattle were tied with ropes and they were packed by raising planks in the middle just to accommodate maximum number of them. The cattle were packed in pitiable condition.
The police party arrested all the three smugglers including driver and rescued the animals. A case was registered against them. The accused were identified as driver Javed from Banihal, Mushtaq Ahmed, son of Mohd Yousuf from Ramban and Mohd Hanief, son of Mohd Yousuf from Beli Charana in Jammu. SDPO, Surankote, Ajay Sharma lauded the efforts and alertness of the cops at the Behramgalla Nakka and asked them to carry on their job with same zeal and devotion.
