Gujjar writers adopt resolutions for promotion of Gojri

Jammu, Nov 16: Affirming that Gojri is the largest spoken tribal languages of Northern India with more than two millions native speakers in Jammu and Kashmir, the speakers of a Gojri meet today said that their language needs more attention from the Government for its overall development.
The programme was organized by Tribal Research and Cultural Foundation – a frontal organisation of Gujjars to discuss the issues related to Gojri language and culture.
The speakers further said that Gojri is a significant language of Indian Subcontinent and its importance is increasing day by day mainly due to growing ethnic consciousness among Gujjars, Bakerwals and other communities who speak this language since centuries.
In his address, Dr Javaid Rahi, Secretary, Tribal Foundation today said that Gujjars-the main speakers of Gojri- who lives in 12 States of North-Western India, are fighting vigorously for its inclusion in 8th Schedule of India.
He informed the meeting that recently a delegation of Gujjars led by him met top central leadership in New Delhi to press the demand for inclusion of Gojri in Indian Constitution.The case of enlistment of Gojri language in Constitution is pending with Union Home Ministry.
The meeting was further informed that with the constant struggle of Tribal Foundation Jammu University has opened a Gojri language Research Centre in Poonch Campus which will be functional in next couple of days.
The meeting adopted 7 resolutions & regarding constitution of committee to pursue the matter related to inclusion of Gojri in the Eighth Schedule of India Constitution, opening of Gojri Research Centre in Kashmir Universities, Tribal Museum for Gujjars , regular Gojri News and programme on Doordarshan and Morning News bulletins from AIR and DD Jammu and Srinagar, introduction of Gojri up to 12th standard through State Board of school Education and recognition of Gojri language by Sahahity Akademi New Delhi
The speakers also suggested a committee of 15 senior writers , poets and intellectual which will work jointly and to meet different dignitaries to address the issues with regard to development of Gojri language and culture.
