Sir,
This refers to the writeup’A writer with wit and versatility'(Sunday Magazine page- 4).The demise of Amin Kamil, one of the greatest poets, ghazal masters, writers, critics and playwrights and a great souce of inspiration for the Kashmiri writers at a ripe age of 90 years, is an irreparable loss to the literary community in general and J&K state in particular. He was the recipient of many state level and national prizes.Born in a village in 1924,he played a key role in enriching the Kashmiri literature. His works speak volume about his creative ability, penetrating insight and his mastery of themes.I have gone through the English version of his story’ The Cockfight’ ( prescribed in the syllabus and courses of study in English for the 12th class) which bears testimony to his deep perception of minute things and the mindset and psyche of people, especially belonging to the lower and marginalised strata of the society. He could create interesting characters from mundane and commonplace things and people. His portrayal of characters in the story mentioned above is realistic and interesting. The writer has paid a befitting tribute to this great man of letters, highlighting the times during which his literary talent blossomed and the people who influenced him in his pursuit. He deserves all praise for his noble endeavour in presenting various unknown facts about Amin Kamil in his writeup .The demise of such a great writer is an irreparable loss to to literary world of the country in general and our state in particular.it will take centuries to fill the void created by his demise.May his soul rest in peace!
Yours etc…..
