Srinagar, Nov 18: Congress today attacked the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah for not “fulfilling his role as the head of the State”.
Senior Congress leader Rashid Alvi, who had a day-long visit to several areas in the State, told media persons that at the time when elections are just overhead the blame-game should not have been raked up.
“I would say that this was not the right time to play blame-game” Alvi said in response to a question.
“However, Congress provided ample time of six years to Omar Abdullah to govern and develop Kashmir. But, today it is a fact that Kashmir didn’t progress ahead in the last six years under Omar Abdullah,” he said.
The Congress leader said the patry had supported Omar because “we had expected a lot from him”. But he has failed. Even during floods, his role was a completely failure.
He also blamed the BJP Government at the Center for not supporting people during and after the “great catastrophe”.
Alvi said that Congress has a strong ground in the state and will emerge as powerful after polls.
“We are fighting will full force and we will surely win in Beerwa constituency and Omar Abdullah will loose from there,” he said, adding, “I have toured a number of areas and based on my assessment Congress will emerge as powerful after polls in Kashmir.”
He said Congress is fighting elections to form the next Government on its own “because we provided every support to Kashmir when we were in power in centre.”
On abrogation of Article 370 which gives special status to the state within the country, Alvi attacked the BJP saying that the party has clear policy of abrogating the special status of the State.
Alvi rebuked Omar Abdullah for blaming Congress for not supporting him in repealing AFSPA from the State.
“When did Omar ask for repeal of AFSPA? It (AFSPA) is a sensitive issue and it will have to be addressed as per sentiments and emotions of the people,” he said.
Alvi feigned ignorance about the purported audio clip in which a Congress contesting candidate from north Kashmir is allegedly seeking sexual favours from a woman in exchange for a job.
“We have not fielded corrupt candidates. There is no court verdict on any of our candidate who we have fielded. If there is any such verdict against any we will relook his candidature,” he said.
On the BJP’s slogan of ‘Mission 44 plus’, the Congress leader said there is no trace of BJP in the Valley. “…. not even a flag. I am astonished on how they are contesting here and claiming that they will from the Government.”
