No use of children in polls: EC

The Election Commission of India has taken strong exception to engagement of children in various election related activities in Jammu and Kashmir and held this as highly objectionable.
In a communiqué to the J&K Government, the Election Commission has cited that no such insensitivity is shown by any political party anywhere in the country and that such a violation of children’s rights for any work connected with the election process like campaigning, carrying of campaign material etc will not be acceptable.
The Commission has also referred to the judgment of Mumbai High Court in this regard, which stated that political parties shouldn’t allow participation of children in any election related activities.
The Election Commission had warned that the District Election Officers/Returning Officers will be personally held responsible for any such violation and will face severe disciplinary action apart from the consequences of law if any incident of children’s use in election related activities comes to its notice.
