Aditya makes winning start in Shanghai Masters

MUMBAI, July 24:
India’s ace cueist, Aditya Mehta reigned supreme at the green baize to beat Paul Davison of England 5-2 in the Shanghai Masters Qualifiers being played at World Snooker Academy in Sheffield, near Yorkshire in England.
Aditya started off well with a few 40+ breaks to go 2-0 up but Paul managed to pull one back in the third frame.
The Indian won the fourth frame to go into the mid-session with a 3-1 lead. A bad break cost Aditya the next frame where Paul made a 50 in his first visit.
From 3-2, Aditya played an aggressive game and constructed breaks of 44 and 30 in the sixth and a superb 78 in the seventh frame to seal the issue in his favour.
“It’s been a good start for the season. Today’s match was an enjoyable one to play. I am waiting to play against James Wattana tomorrow. We’ve been contenders recently and our match tomorrow is sure to be an interesting one,” said Aditya after his victory.
The tournamnent will see about 80 players competing in 64 matches. All the matches will be played in the best of 9 frame format. (PTI)
