MENDHAR, Nov 22: Women Development Cell of Government Degree College, Mendhar in collaboration with NRHM organised a symposium on “Save the Girl Child” in the college premises.
The programme was initiated with the prayer followed by welcome address by Prof Mohd Akram. The keynote address was presented by Dr Firdous Nazir, HoD, Arabic. Principal of the college Prof Shabir Hussain Shah presided over the function. Dr. Parvaiz Ahmed Khan, B.M.O, Mendhar was the chief guest.
“Save the Girl Child” was the main theme of the symposium with sub-theme as “Women Empowerment, Women Foeticide, Crime Against Women, Status of the women in society and PC/PNDT Act 1994”.
In the symposium as many as twenty students participated. Notable among them were, Nighat Ara student of BSc Part-II, Wahida Akhter student of BA Part-III and Zobia Kouser student of BA Part-II who were awarded with the first prize (Rs 1500), Second prize (Rs 1200) and Third prize (Rs 1000) respectively. Mohd Shaftar Khan student of BSc part-I, Imran Kha student of Part-II and Shagufta Naz student of Part-II were given consolation prizes of Rs 200 each respectively.
The programme was attended by a large number of students and all the faculty of the college. Prof Shabir Hussain Shah, Dr Parviaz Ahmed and Dr Mohd Azam made valuable speeches on the importance of women in the society and the ways by which the girl child could be saved.
