JAMMU, Nov 29: In a petition filed by J&K Veterinary Doctors Association, Jammu challenging deployment of doctors and compounders for election duty, High Court today directed the District Election Officer, Samba to strictly comply with the ECI notification.
The petitioner submitted that Election Commission of India Vide its Order NO 464/Inst/2002/PLN-1 dated March 23, 2002 has exempted inter alia, doctors/compounders working in Verterinay Hospital from being deployed for election duties in view of the essential nature of duties/services being discharged by them.
The Association said that on October 30, 2014 Divisional Commissioner Jammu requested all the District Election Officers of Jammu division to follow the guidelines issued by the Election Commission in this regard strictly.
However, the District Election Officer Samba deployed polling staff from Veterinary Department in connection with Legislative Assembly Election.
After hearing Advocate Rohan Nanda for the petitioner, Justice Janak Raj Kotwal issued notice to the Deputy Commissioner/District Election Officer Samba and meanwhile ordered that subject to objections in back drop of exemption granted by the Election Commission and communication dated October 30, 2014 issued from Divisional Commissioner, the DO shall reconsider the matter and ensure that the exemption granted by ECI is strictly complied with.
