Run marks celebration of ‘IAP National Healthy Life Style Day’

JAMMU, Nov 30: Department of Pediatrics, GMC Jammu and Indian Academy of Pediatrics Jammu branch jointly organised a “Run” in the Jammu University campus to commemorate “IAP National Healthy Life Style Day”.
This Day which was celebrated by all IAP branches throughout the country is the brainchild of Prof Dr Rekha Harish, HoD Pediatrics GMC Jammu who is also the Convener and Chairperson of the “IAP National Task Force for Prevention of Childhood Obesity and Life Style Disorders” and suggested for these celebrations at national level to create awareness of the Growing Epidemic of Obesity which is a result of our Unhealthy Life Style since 2013.
On the occasion, Dr RD Sharma, Vice Chancellor, Jammu University was the chief guest.
The Theme of this day was ‘Promotion of Healthy Life Style’ on the principle of to take atleast 5 servings of 5 different coloured fruits/vegetables per day, limit screen time (mobile, TV, computers) to less than 2 hours a day, to participate in at least 1 hour of moderate to vigorous physical activity per day and say no to sugary drinks and colas.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Rekha Harish reiterated that if these lifestyle principles are adopted by us, we can protect ourselves to a great extent from the premature onset and curse of rapidly increasing non-communicable diseases like obesity, hypertension, dyslipidemias, diabetes and cardiovascular diseases.
The participants of the “Run” included doctors and staff of Department of Pediatrics, faculty members GMC Jammu and other senior Pediatricians of the State.
Dr Rekha Harish and Prof GS Saini were winners of Ist place in female and male senior categories respectively, while as Dr Priyanka, PG and Dr Anuj Bhatti, Lecturer Dr Sajjad were winners in female and male junior category. Dr Ravinder, Prof ASCOMS and Dr Sonam were the runners-ups.
The proceedings of the programme were conducted by Dr Sunil Dutt Sharma, Asstt Prof, while as Dr Vikramjeet, Registrar, Pediatrics presented vote of thanks.
