JAMMU, Nov 30: A cardio vascular diseases detection camp was today organized at Ghour Brahmana in Akhnoor in which more than 250 patients were examined.
The camp was organised under the supervision of Dr Sushil K Sharma, Head Department of Cardiology, Government Medical College, Jammu along with a team of doctors which consisted of Dr Nasir, Dr Mohi Kalsotra, Dr D Kapoor and paramedics including Ram Rattan, Rajesh Sharma and volunteers including Sandeep Koul, Vikas, Jagdeep, Sahil and Lokesh.
A large number of patients availed the benefits of this camp which included clinical examination and investigations like blood sugar and ECG. Free medicines were also distributed during the camp. The emphasis of camp was stress on detecting cardio vascular diseases in patients especially coronary artery disease which itself is a big killer.
Dr Sushil Sharma highlighted the various risk factors which if not attended well in time can progress to deadly problems like heart attacks, heart failure and sudden cardiac deaths. They included factors like smoking and excessive alcohol intake, hypertension, uncontrolled diabetes, Hyperlipidaemia, obesity and stressful situations.
Dr Sharma also highlighted the influence of cold weather on patients of Coronary artery diseases and especially in old. These patients should protect themselves from cold and desist from moving around in wintery and foggy conditions, he said.
