JAMMU, Dec 1: World AIDS Day was observed all over the State as various organisations, colleges and schools organized different events including symposiums, slogan writing competitions and awareness rallies on HIV/AIDS.
A mega function on World AIDS Day was organized by J&K State AIDS Control Society (JKSACS) in collaboration with School of Hospitality and Tourism Management, and SAKSHAM, GFATM, University of Jammu. Chief guest, Commissioner/Secretary, Health and Medical Education, Gazzanfer Hussain, in his address appealed the masses particularly the youth to make concerted efforts on sustainable basis to combat HIV/AIDS in the State. Earlier, chief guest flagged off ‘Run for AIDS’ Awareness’ rally to mark the World AIDS Day which started from Narwal Chowk and culminated at Zorawar Singh Auditorium. Students of different Red Ribbon Clubs from various Degree Colleges participated in the rally. Later, on a function was organized by the J&K State AIDS Prevention and Control Society (JKSACS) in collaboration with School of Hospitality & Tourism Management, SAKSHAM, GFATM, University of Jammu.
On the occasion of World Aids Day, the Red Ribbon Club of Government MAM College organized a Slogan Writing Competition and Quiz Contest on HIV/AIDS, its awareness, prevention and control in collaboration with J&K State Aids Control Society (JKSACS). Principal, Dr Anita was the chief guest on the occasion. More than 50 students participated in the Slogan Writing Competition and wrote slogans on the placards. The best slogan adjudged by the jury was that of Anil Singh Jamwal, BSc Part-III Student. In Quiz Contest, the team comprised of Amit Sharma and Munish Kumar emerged winner.
Red Cross and NSS Unit of Government College for Women (GCW), Gandhi Nagar, in collaboration with Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS), Region Jammu, PG Department of Blood Transfusion and Medicines, Government Medical College (GMC), Jammu and JKSACS, Jammu today organized a voluntary Blood Donation Camp today at GCW Gandhi Nagar on the eve of “World Aids Day”. Dr Kiran Bakshi, principal, inaugurated the Blood Donation Camp. RC Puri, Secretary, IRCS Region Jammu was also present. More than 15 units of blood was donated by the students of the College.
A symposium on the topic ‘World Aids Day’ was organized in KC College of Education on the eve of ‘World Aids Day’. The programme was coordinated by the NSS programme officer, Dr Deepshikha Gupta, in her speech gave information about HIV virus and also shared important facts about AIDS. Shiva Saproo, a student presented statistical data on HIV. Dr Shamima Bano, Principal of the college, stated that the solution to prevent spreading of this virus lies in the hands of the educationists who need to create a social vaccine of awareness.
Government Degree College (GDC), Akhnoor, organised a Poster cum Slogan writing competition in the college on the eve of ‘World Aids Day’ in which 50 students participated. Later on a rally was organised which was flagged off by principal, Dr Asha Gupta, to aware the public about AIDS and its prevention. Ranjana Kumari, Ramni Sharma and Neha Manhas got 1st, 2nd, 3rd positions, respectively in Poster Making while Arti Devi, Akhilesh Lata and Kritika secured 1st, 2nd, 3rd positions, respectively in Slogan Writing.
NSS unit of GDC Bishnah organized a symposium on the topic “Role of Youth to aware masses about HIV/AIDS” on ‘World Aids Day’ under the supervision of Dr Suman Charak, NSS programme officer. One hundred Volunteers of BA Sem I, BA Part- II and III participated in the event. Proceedings of the programme were initiated by Dr Suman Charak. Prof Kalpana Kesar, principal, was the chief guest on the occasion. Dr Suman Charak and Prof Preeti Dogra were the resource persons.
‘World AIDS Day’ was marked by a Symposium and Poster Making competition in GDC Samba. A total of 20 students participated in both the events. In Symposium, 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes were won by Sakshi, Alka and Sahil Choudhary, respectively, while Monika, Chetan and Ritika bagged 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes in Poster Making competition. While speaking on the occasion, principal, Dr Ramesh Chander, advised the students to spread the awareness about AIDS in their neighbourhood.
On the eve of ‘World Aids Day’ NSS volunteers of Chenab College of Education took out a rally to Langar village to aware the people regarding the deadly disease, HIV/AIDS. The rally was flagged off by the principal, Kamaldeep Kaur. The volunteers also organized a symposium on the awareness of AIDS. And at last a very energetic and educative skit was performed by the volunteers of NSS at Langar.
A Solgan Writing competition and Poster Making competition was also organized in the premises of Sant Mela Singh College of Education, Digiana (Jammu). Thirty-five students of the college participated in the event. All the participants displayed the best of their creative abilities to aware the common masses of AIDS. Chairman of the college, Prof Anmol and In-charge principal, Inderjeet Kour, while speaking on the occasion, stressed upon the need of awareness about AIDS and its prevention.
Trikuta Degree College, Raipur-Bantalab (Jammu), organized an awareness rally on the eve of World AIDS Day. The rally was flagged off by chief guest, Dr Roop Lal Sharma, chairman of the college. The rally was taken out through the main streets of Bantalab and culminated back in the college premises. The students carrying placards in their hands were conveying different messages essential to prevent the disease. Prof PK Koul, principal, also participated in the rally.
One day workshop on AIDS awareness was organized by Red Ribbon Club and NSS Units of GDC Kathua in collaboration with IRCS, Kathua. The workshop was inagurated by Dr Hardev Gupta along with principal, Dr BL Gupta and Prof (Retd) Dhian Singh. Chief guest, Dr Hardev Gupta in his speech presented a very illuminating and informative talk on AIDS and insisted on the students to come forward and spread the information on AIDS to every nook and corner of Kathua district.
NSS Unit of Luthra College of Education, Jammu under the guidance of NSS programme officer, Upasana Sharma, today on the eve of World AIDS Day organized an awareness programme. The students deliberated on the causes, symptoms and prevention of the AIDS. In the last, Seema Jamwal impressed upon the students to disseminate this awareness to the surrounding and society to make the nation AIDS free.
In connection with World AIDS Day, a seminar on the topic “Role of youth in awareness and prevention of AIDS” was organized by Government PG College Bhaderwah in collaboration with JKSACS, Jammu. The seminar was presided over by principal, Dr RK Raina. Dr Javid Iqbal, convener, Red Ribbon Club threw light on various aspects of AIDS and role of youth in prevention and control of the deadly disease. A number of students participated in the seminar on shared their views on the topic. Prof Surinder Parihar, Prof Naz Zarger and Tanveer Ahmed judged the seminar.
GDC Budhal observed World AIDS Day by organizing a guest lecture on AIDS. The lecture was delivered by Abdul Lateef Dar, Community Health Officer (CHO) Budhal. In his lecture, Dar discussed in detail different causes and preventive measures of AIDS. Principal, Dr Shakeel Ahmad Raina, in his presidential address also threw light on the importance of the day. Mudasir Ahmad Dar (PTI) conducted proceeding of the program.
Red Ribbon Club of GDC Gool in collaboration with JKSACS, Jammu, organized a symposium cum awareness programme on the topic ‘Prevention and Cure of HIV/AIDS’ in college premises. A total of 14 students participated in the event. Dr Sheikh Yasir, BMO Gool, was the resource person, who threw light on all the aspects of HIV/AIDS. Later a rally was also organized which was flagged off by principal of the college, Dr Chander Shekhar. The rally passed through the bazaars of Gool and concluded back at college premises.
GDC Kishtwar in collaboration with Red Ribbon Club organized a mega awareness programme to observe “World AIDS Day”. A symposium was also held in the college which was presided over by Prof (Dr) Aftab Ahmed Khan, principal of the college. Various students participated in the event and shared their views on AIDS. Later on a rally was organized in which around 150 students of the college took part.
To observe World AIDS Day, the Red Ribbon Club of GDC Rajouri in collaboration with the JKSACS today organized a symposium on “AIDS Awareness”. Seven students of the college participated in the event and deliberated on the causes and consequences of AIDS. Dr JA Qazi, principal of the college and chairman of Red Ribbon Club, was the chief guest, who in his address emphasized that it is the responsibility of every individual of the society to spread the message of knowing about the causes and consequences of AIDS everywhere.
On the eve of World AIDS Day, Red Ribbon Club of GDC Doda in association with JKSACS organized a seminar on AIDS. Chief guest of the event, Col Sunil Mishra, Commandant 10 RR, while sharing their views, exhorted the students to follow healthy way of life. The presiding officer, Prof ZA Hashmi, principal, GDC Doda, also spoke on the occasion. Dr Anayat Lone, Consultant Pathologist Sarwal Hospital, Jammu was the resource person. He made students aware of the causes and preventive measures of this dreadful disease. The lecture was followed by an interactive session where students raise their queries regarding HIV/AIDS.
The Red Ribbon club of GDC Ramban organized an awareness rally on World AIDS Day. The rally was flagged off by principal of the college, Dr Youdhvir, passed through the different streets of the town and finally culminated back at college premises. Later, a symposium on the topic “Know AIDS for No AIDS’ was also organized in which a large number of students participated. CMO Ramban, Dr SD Khan, in his keynote address, impressed upon the gathering to make themselves aware of the factors that cause HIV/AIDS sot that the precious lives can be s aved.
On world AIDS Day, the NSS Unit and Red Ribbon Club of GDC Bani organized a seminar on AIDS awareness. In his introductory remarks, principal of the college, Dr Naresh Kumar Gupta dealt at length about the role of educational institutions in bringing about awareness about AIDS. He also urged the participants to make concerted efforts in preventing the disease. Dr Liaqat Ali, BMO, Sub-District Hospital, Bani and key resource person, also threw considerable light on the origin, causes of proliferation and measures to prevent the dreaded disease.
The Red Ribbon Club of Government College of Education, Srinagar, in collaboration with J&K AIDS Prevention Control Society organized a function in connection with World AIDS Day. The programme was inaugurated by programme officer of the college, Fazl Illahi, who emphasized the role of teachers in the prevention of this disease through awareness and sensitivity. He highlighted that the integrated efforts of Department of Health and Medical Education will be helpful in preventing various social evils including HIV/AIDS. The students and teachers of the College also highlighted the needs and importance of such awareness programme. They also participated in the Poster Presentation Competition regarding the HIV/AIDS.
Range Police Headquarters, Jammu, in collaboration with Blossom High School, RS Pura organized a massive Anti-AIDs rally on the occasion of “World AIDS Day”. Shakeel A Beig, Deputy Inspector General of Police, flagged of the rally. The rally was headed by Chief Guest. In his speech, DIG Jammu said that World AIDS Day is an opportunity for people throughout the world to unite in the fight against HIV and to show their support for the people living with HIV. The rally passed through the main bazaar of RS Pura.
In connection with World AIDS day, an Inter-School and Inter-College Poster Making competition was held at Tiny Tots Hr Sec School, where students made posters on the theme AIDS: Prevention and Cure. The competition adjudicators were Dr T R Raina, Administrator, Swami Vivekananda Mission Charitable Hospital and KK Gandhi, a renowned artist of the State. In Inter-School competition, Poornima from Model Academy and Preeti Kumari From Tiny Tots HSS, Residency Road, shared 1st prize while in Inter College competition, the first prize was shared by Diksha Bakshi from MIER and Shikha Singh from JK College.
On the occasion of World AIDS Day, Government Higher Secondary School (Camp) Bohri, Jammu, organized a special morning assembly, wherein the principal, staff members and the students gave speeches on the World AIDS Day. In his speech, principal of the school, Ramesh Hakim, urged upon the students to follow a healthy way of life by preventing themselves from such dreadful diseases. He further impressed upon the students to shed inhibition and come forward to spread the message in their surroundings.
For observation of World AIDS Day, J&K Society for the Promotion of Youth and Masses (JKSPYM), today organized ‘AIDS Walk’ from MA Stadium to Rajinder Park in order to create awareness among general masses about HIV/AIDS. During the walk, pamphlets, placards and banners having message of prevention of HIV/AIDS were distributed among the general masses. More than 200 people participated in the AIDS Walk. Earlier, the programme started with relief distribution for people living HIV by Project Director, JKSACS. The programme was organized in collaboration with JKSACS, India HIV AIDS Alliance and MAMTA.
319th Tree Talk event hosted on World AIDS Day in Government Girls High School, Birpur, focused on trees and climbers of Shivaliks known for prevention of AIDS cure and boosting immunity among malnourished communities. Tree Talk Crusader, OP Sharma and Dr Taran Singh while reflecting on the strength and miracles of herbal healing, said that trees known as Chebulic, Belleric and Embelic Myrobalans called Harad, Baheda and Amla have been found effective in boosting body immunity and thus useful in AIDS prevention. Anita Sharma, Headmistress of the school, and students also highlighted significance of plants and trees in overcoming reduced immunity in HIV infected patients.
World AIDS Day was observed at 166 Military Hospital by organizing an awareness programme in the form of symposium and exhibition at Dhanvantri Auditorium of the hospital. The theme of the programme was “Focus, Partner, Achieve: An AIDS – Free Generation”. Brigadier MM Harjai, SEMO & Commandant 166 MH, inaugurated the awareness drive. Lieutenant Colonel Vivek Gupta delivered a health talk on prevention and control of HIV/AIDS followed by an interactive session with audience.
World AIDS Day was also observed at Chief Medical Office, Shopian. Deputy Commissioner Shopian, Bashir Ahmad Bhat, was chief guest on the occasion. He in his speech stressed upon the concerned officers and officials to aware the people of the district about Aids. The officers of Health Department were also present on the occasion.
On the occasion of World AIDS Day, National Development Foundation (NDF), in collaboration with Department of Health & Family Welfare, Rajouri, under the aegis of JKSACS organized an awareness programme at CMO Complex Rajouri under the theme “Focus, Partner, Achieve: An AIDS-free generation”. Chief Medical Officer, Rajouri, Dr Rajeev Sharma was the chief guest on the occasion Students of ANM schools displayed the messages on safety and prevention of AIDS through the paintings.
