Symposium organized by GDC Kathua

KATHUA, Dec 10:  One day symposium on topic “Recent Advances and Modern Approaches in Physics of Materials” was organized by Department of Physics in Government Degree College, Kathua.
Prof  P  N  Kotru, Emeritus Professor and former Head of Physics Department of  University of Jammu was the chief guest and resource person on the occasion.
In his keynote address on topic “Materials Engineering & Modern Technology – A Fundamental View”, he discussed the recent developments and challenges in the physics of materials and also apprised the audience about the achievements by scientific community during the last century.
Dr Balwinder Kour, Assistant Professor, GGM Science College, who was the invited speaker, spoke on topic “Induced size effects of Gd3+ ions doping on Structural and Magnetic properties of Ni0.5Zn0.5GdxFe2-xO4 (x = 0.1, 0.2, 0.3) Nanoparticles”.
Afterwards more than ten students of the college gave their presentations on different topics from the concerned field. Prof Daya Vilas from GGLDM College, Hiranagar, Prof Jasvinder Singh from GDC Kathua and Dr  Amita Dua from GCW Kathua acted as judges on the occasion.
Shagun Sharma,  Pallavi Sharma and  Ankush Mehta, all of B Sc Part III were adjudged as first, second and  third respectively while  Rameshwar Singh of B Sc Part-III was given consolation prize.
Earlier, presenting welcome address, Dr  B  L  Gupta, Principal GDC Kathua, spoke on the importance of this event and its benefits for Staff of the Physics Department, in particular and students, in general.
Among the senior faculty members, Prof  Shub Kumar, Prof  Raj Kiran, Prof  Naresh Sharma and Prof  Mona Sethi were also present in the function. Proceeding of the function was conducted by Dr  Suram Singh and Prof  Madhavi Manohar Lal.
Prof  Anirudh Sharma, Head, Department of Physics, GDC Kathua presented the formal vote of thanks.
