NEW DELHI, Dec 25:
Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif today greeted former PM Atal Behari Vajpayee on his 90th birthday by sending him a bouquet.
The flowers were delivered to Mr Vajpayee at his Krishna Menon Marg by an official of the Pakistan High Commissioner here.
December 25 is also the birthday of Mr Sharif. The two leaders are associated with some very significant events in the history of Pakistan and India.
In a historic move to normalise relations between the two countries, Mr Vajpayee made a bus journey to Lahore in February 1999 to meet Mr Sharif in his earlier term as prime minister of Pakistan.
The two leaders also signed the Lahore accord on nuclear control which greatly contributed in increasing mutual trust.
However, two months later Pakistan launched the Kargil war against India, which was seen as primarily a decision of the Pakistan Army, giving a body blow to the bonhomie generated between the two countries by Mr Vajpayee’s initiative. (UNI)
