Sir,
This has reference to the news item ‘Inclusion of Bhoti language in 8th schedule’ DE Dec 19.
The inclusion of Bhoti language in 8th schedule of Indian Constitution is a long pending demand of Ladakhi people. The people have raised this issue several times at the appropriate fora but the issue has not received the attention it should have by this time. The people here have received only assurances and nothing beyond that.
It is an issue that is linked to identity of Ladakhi people and should not be swept under carpet. The language which is spoken by almost three million people extending from Arunachal Pradesh to Ladakh will receive a great thrust if is it is recognised at national level. It will withstand the pressures it is experiencing now due to various reasons.
The Central and State Governments are requested to consider this issue seriously. Otherwise, people here will feel discriminated and ignored.
Yours etc……
Padma Yanchen
