Ritwan, Shivinder emerge winner in senior, junior categories

JAMMU, Jan 6: Ritwan Sauntra and Shivinder Chib emerged winners in the senior and junior categories respectively in the two day long J&K State Chess Tournament, which concluded today.
Sumit Grover, Maxim Singh and Arushi Kotwal secured second, third and fourth positions respectively in the senior category, whileas Akashdeep, Yaksh Chopra and Ritish Pathania claimed second, third and fourth ranks in the junior category respectively.
Nihida Gul won the first place among girls in Junior category, while as seond, third and fourth positions went to Bismah Afshan, Sanjukta Sobani and Rahilla Gul respectively.
The best veteran award was presented to Mohammad Rafiq and the best women award went to Arushi Kotwal while Varsha Rani got second rank. Youngest participant award went to Deewang Gupta in boys category and Areeba Shabir in girls category.
Rajan Sharma, Divisional Sports Officer Jammu was the chief guest on the valedictory function, who awarded the winners in presence of Nuzhat Ara, Sports Officer Central, who was guest of honour on the occasion.
Atul Kumar Gupta, President All J&K Chess Association, Ashiq Ahmad Kolu, general secretary and Baldev Raj, vice President were also present.
All the matches were conducted under the supervision of general secretary Ashiq Ahmad Kolu. Bindu Pathania was the Chief Arbiter of the tournament.
