Internationally designed Multi-Disciplinary Sports Indoor Complex to be functional by March end

JAMMU, Jan 6: In a major flip to the sports activities in Jammu, Multi Disciplinary Indoor Sports Complex designed on international standards at MA Stadium will be made functional by March end this year.
The sports infrastructure has been revitalized and upgraded with a tremendous support from the Union Sports Ministry and one of the glaring examples of the same is construction of this Multi Disciplinary Sports Indoor Complex at MA Stadium.
The complex to be constructed at a cost of Rs 6 crore is totally funded by Government of India under its Urban Sports Infrastructure Development Scheme.
The Government of India has released Rs 6 crore for construction of the complex being raised over a land of 9 Kanal (Over one Acre of land). The construction work of the complex is being executed by the Engineering Wing of the Jammu and Kashmir State Sports Council.
The foundation stone of the complex was laid on April 9, 2012 by the then Sports Minister Taj Mohi-ud-Din and the MLA East Ashok Khajuria. Since then the construction work of the complex is going on in full swing with an aim to give a boost to the sports in Jammu and the morale of the youths.
The timely completion of the Sports Complex in two years as allocated by Government of India will not only encourage sports in the State but will also prove beneficial for holding national as well as international events.
The Sports complex shall have all the modern facilities including multipurpose sports hall, gymnasium, fencing hall, judo-karate hall, indoor games, etc.
This two storied Multi-Disciplinary Sport Complex will house four suites which will host players and coaches of international and national repute, changing room, international size hall of 40x 25 meters, 5 other halls of 18×20 meters each for conducting different games and one meeting hall for discussing the strategies for holding national and international events.
The complex will have provision for many games under one-roof including Volleyball, Handball, Basketball, Gymnastics, Wrestling, all Martial-Art games (Judo, Karate, Wushu), Badminton, Table Tennis, etc.
The Sports Complex has been designed on international pattern with German made maple-wood flooring and LED lights, which will add grace to its interior looks and will raise the standard of playing.
Giving details of the project, Dileep Thusoo, Secretary, J&K State Sports Council told Excelsior that internationally designed Sports complex will be made functional by March 31.
“90 per-cent work of roofing has been completed and within few days the work of flooring will start”, he said, adding that apart from this, some other allied works are also being carried out simultaneously”.
Mr Thusoo added that with the construction of this complex, the sports activities in the State will surely take new heights in the times to come.
“The old multi-purpose sports hall is also under renovation and the floor will have the same maple wood flooring. The renovation of the hall will be completed by January end this year, which will provide more space to conduct games”, he informed.
