JAMMU, Jan 6: Professor Wai K Cheng, Professor of Mechanical Engineering and Director, Sloan Automotive Laboratory at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA will be visiting SRM University this month to deliver lectures, engage with researchers and explore avenues for joint collaborative research and student mobility programmes.
Dr Cheng is a renowned authority on automotive propulsion. His path breaking research includes engine performance and emissions, engine system behaviour, engine control, and fundamental combustion and emissions processes related to IC engines.
Dr Cheng is a member of SRM’s International Advisory Board (IAB), a consultative group of eminent personalities handpicked from leading institutions across the globe. The concept and intent of IAB is both innovative and distinctive as it seeks to engage with leading lights of cutting edge research and thinking to impact on key facets of SRM teaching and learning methodologies.
Prof Cheng and his colleagues in MIT’s Sloan Automotive Laboratory and MIT’s Laboratory for Energy and the Environment have been working on means to curb the global demand for oil, by demonstrating how ordinary spark-ignition automobile engines can, under certain driving conditions, move into a spark-free operating mode that is more fuel-efficient and just as clean.
