Nursing students of AMT School hold protest demanding early conduct of exam

JAMMU, Jan 6: The nursing students of AMT School, Bakshi Nagar today held a protest demonstration and blocked road in front of the entrance gate of Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Jammu to press the GMC authorities to conduct their examination at the earliest.
About 30-40 nursing students belonging to 4th year and those relieved from the school, this morning gathered in front of the entrance gate of the GMCH and blocked the main road and disrupted the traffic movement for about 15-20 minutes.
The students were demanding that their examination be conducted at the earliest. Kusum, one of the protesting students alleged that there is complete mess in the school. The nursing diploma course which is of 3 and a half years duration could not be completed even in 5 years due to the negligent attitude of GMC authorities, who failed to conduct examinations timely.
She further said that she was enrolled in this course in the year 2010 and after appearing in 3rd year examination, she along with other mates were relieved  from the college on November 30, 2013 but the authorities at the helm of affairs failed to conduct their last year examination due to which they are suffering.
The students also demanded that about 60 posts of General Nursing Wifery (GNF) that were filled up by Multi Purpose Female Health Workers (MPFHWs) illegally, be filled by those having nursing diploma.
After the intervention of the police, the students dispersed form the road and then raised slogans in front of the office of Principal, GMCH, Dr Ghanshyam Dev, who assured that their examination would be conducted in the month of March after the declaration of result of supplementary examination held in August last year.
However, the students being unsatisfied threatened to hold massive protest if their demands are not fulfilled by January 15.
When contacted, Dr Ghanshyam said due to recent floods, all the examinations got delayed but we have completed all work regarding conduct of examination and as soon as the result of supplementary exam comes out, we would announce dates for the conduct of examination of back log batches that have been delayed due to floods.
