30th North Zone Inter-University Youth Festival at JU from Jan 15

JAMMU, Jan 12: Jammu University is all set to host five-day 30th North Zone Inter University Youth Festival 2014-15 from January 15 and preparations in this regard are being given final touches.
More than 900 participants from 25 universities in six North Indian States are taking part in this mega cultural festival, titled ‘Udghosh’, which will be inaugurated by the Governor and Chancellor N N Vohra.
This was informed by JU Vice-Chancellor, Prof R D Sharma, while addressing a hurriedly called press conference on the campus, here this evening.
“Being organized under the aegis of the Association of Indian Universities, New Delhi, the festival will provide an opportunity for budding artists of the participating varsities  to showcase their talent in the field of music, dance, theater events, literary activities and fine arts,” he said.
While elaborating, the Vice-Chancellor said that during the five-day festival from January 15 to January 19, twenty five  events of Music, Dance, Theatre, Literary activities and Fine Arts will be organized simultaneously at various venues in the University.  “It is a matter of great pleasure that Jammu University has the honour of hosting this festival  for the second time in last ten years,” said Prof Sharma, who was accompanied by Registrar Prof M K Dhar;  Director Quality Assurance,  Prof Meenakshi Kilam; Dean Students Welfare Prof Pankaj Srivastav and others.
On January 15, the mega event will start with a cultural procession of all the participating universities at 10 a m from Parade Ground Jammu. After passing through the old city, the procession will enter Jammu University where the gala function will be formally inaugurated by Governor N N Vohra in the presence of Joint Secretary of the Association of Indian Universities, Sampson David, AIU Observer Prof Arun Patil and others. The prize distribution and valedictory function will be held on January 19 from 11 am onwards.
Pertinent to mention here that AIU has been organizing the Inter-University Youth Festivals (UNIFESTS) annually  with financial support of the Ministry of Skill Development, Entrepreneurship, Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India. The UNIFESTS are being held annually in form of Five Zonal Inter University Competitions, namely North Zone, South Zone, East Zone, West Zone and Central Zone. This is followed by National level competition.
Prof Parmeshari Sharma, Prof Arvind Jasrotia, Jai Kumar Sharma, Dr Sanjay Gupta, Ranjeet Kalra, Dr Seema Rohmetra, Vinay Thusoo, Dr A R Manhas, Ifra Kak, Sumeet Sharma, Dr Amit Sharma, Kulbushan Thakur and Pankaj Gupta were also present during the press conference.
