JAMMU, Jan 12: The 151st birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda and Lohri festival were celebrated with enthusiasm by various educational institutions and social organizations.
Vivekananda Vichar Manch, University of Jammu celebrated National Youth Day, in which students and research scholars of the University participated. Parshotam ji Dadheechi, prant karyavah, RSS was the key speaker and Prof Rajnikant from Department of Physics was the chief guest on the occasion. Prof BN Labh, Head of Department Buddhist Studies, Jammu University and Prof Anurag Gangal from Department of Political Science, Jammu University were the special invitee. On the occasion, a library was inaugurated in the hostel. The Programme was hosted by Akshay Sharma, PhD Scholar, Department of Museology, Jammu University. The vote of thanks was delivered by Ranvir Parihar.
NSS Unit of Government College of Education organised a series of programme on the occasion of National Youth Day to commemorate the birth Anniversary of Swami Vivekananda. A special cultural bonanza on the theme ‘Kudiyan Di Lohri’ was held, in which students presented songs, poems, gazals, gidda and Bhangras. A special prayer for universal peace prosperity was made by the staff and the students. Principal Prof Ajeet Angral advised the students to work hard for becoming global leaders.
On the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda, NSS unit of Government Degree College Kathua celebrated the National Youth Day. Dr Ram Singh, NSS Programme Officer spoke on the teachings of Swami Vivekananda. Dr Surya Partap Singh, NSS programme officer also threw light on the teachings of Swami Vivekananda. Staff Secretary of the college Prof Sumanesh Singh recalled the teachings of Swami Vivekananda. Principal Dr BL Gupta along with other staff members and NSS volunteers paid tributes to Swami Vivekananda by garlanding his portrait.
National Youth Day was celebrated at Government Degree College, Gool. On the occasion, students presented cultural programmes. Principal Dr Chander Shekhar enlightened the students about the life and teachings of Swami Vivekananda.
To commemorate the birthday of Swami Vivekananda, National Youth Day was celebrated at Government Higher Secondary School (Boys), Udhampur. Motivational lectures which were based on the teaching of Swami Vivekananda were delivered on the occasion. Principal Sunil Sharma highlighted the philosophies, teachings and ideas of the Swami Vivekananda.
National Youth Day was celebrated at Government Degree College, Nowshera. On the occasion, Ravinder Raina MLA Nowshera was the chief guest, who while speaking threw light on the life and teachings of Swami Vivekananda. Dr GS Rakwal, Principal GDC, Nowshera presided over the function. Six students from different institutions spoke on the occasion. Simran Bala of New National Public School stood first whileas Sanam Deep of Christ School and Mehak Sharma of Third Millennium Public School secured second and third positions respectively.
Red Ribbon Club of Government Degree College, Thannamandi in collaboration with J&K State AIDS Prevention Control Society, Department of Health and Medical Education celebrated National Youth Day. Principal GDC Thannamandi Dr BB Sharma was the chief guest, whereas Dr SA Raina, Principal GDC Budhal was the guest of honour. Besides cultural programme, essay writing competition was also organized, in which Shabina Magray, Iram Naz, Gulzana Koser, Tahir Masood, Rahila Maqsood and Aarzoo Chaand emerged winners. A lecture on the importance of the day was presented by Sajjad, HoD Islamic Studies.
Government Degree College, Basohli celebrated Lohri festival and National Youth Day. Principal Kuldip Raj Sharma lit the traditional bonfire and NSS volunteers along with staff members performed the rituals and danced around the bonfire. A colourful cultural programme was presented by the students.
The students and the staff members of Dogra College of Education celebrated the Lohri festival with religious fervour. The bonfire was lit and the students and the staff members gathered around the fire to pay their obeisance by enchanting “Gyatri Mantra” followed by Lohri folk songs. Secretary Dogra Educational Trust Samar Dev Singh Charak along with Director-cum-Principal of the college Prof BD Damral were also present.
Taawish College of Education celebrated the Lorhi festival at its campus. Students participated in the Punjabi folk songs and dance and all the teachers and the students enjoyed the celebration. Speaking on the occasion, chairperson of the College, Pooja Malhotra highlighted the importance of the festival.
Lohri was celebrated with great enthusiasm and gaiety in Sant Mela Singh College of Education. Chairman of the College, Prof Anmol Singh presided over the function. Principal of the College, Dr Kiran Luthra threw light on the importance of the festival. Students presented colourful cultural programme on the occasion. Sweets were distributed among the students and staff.
Chenab College of Education organized a function on the eve of Lohri and celebrated it with religious fervour and gaiety in its premises. Students lightened the bonfire and worshipped the Lord Agni. The students participated actively in this programme and enjoyed the occasion with full bonanza. Principal of the College lauded the efforts of the teachers and the students for their display.

The NSS Unit of Luthra College of Education under the guidance of NSS Programme Officer, Upasana Sharma celebrated National Youth Day and Lohri with great zeal today. To mark the respect to the seasons and the natural elements of fire, wind, earth and contribution of Swami Vivekananda, Lohri festival and National Youth Day was celebrated in R M Educational Complex where R M College of Education and RM Public School lit the bonfire, chanted mantras and offered prayers for happiness and prosperity of all. On this occasion Bhangra and Gidda were performed by the students. R S Moza, Senior Lecturer highlighted the importance of this and P K Dhar, Principal of the College greeted every one on the ocasion. Prashad was also distributed among staff and students. Priyanka Sharma, Senior Lecturer of the College organized the programme.
The students and staff members of Sai Shyam College of Education and Sai Shyam Public School, Ghou Manhasan Jammu celebrated Lohri Festival with religious gaiety and enthusiasm in the premises of the College. A Lohri fire was lit by the chairman of the Sai Shyam Educational Society, C L Tickoo along with all members. The students danced and sang the Lohri songs on the occasion and narrated the stories related to the festival. College Principal, Dr Usha Tickoo threw light on the importance of the Festival.
Lohri was celebrated at North Polytechnic with gaiety, vigour and great enthusiasm. A bonfire was lighted in the institution premises. The students performed Lohri dance and group songs were presented by the faculty as well as the students. The function was attended by representatives of the management, staff and the students. Er K R Sharma, Principal of the Institution and Er Ajay Jamwal, Dean Administration greeted the staff on this pious and auspicious festival.
Lohri festival was celebrated in Vimal Muni College of Education Vijaypur in the College premises today. Students arranged the holy log of woods and decorated it with rangoli. Chairperson of the College, Anu Gupta; Principal, Dr Neelam Bakshi, staff members and the students celebrated Lohri with lots of fun and frolic and enjoyed the festival in a traditional way. The students lit the holy fire and prayed to Almighty for peace and harmony. Sweets were distributed among the students.
Sacred Heart College of Education celebrated Lohri Festival in the College premises. The festival was started with prayers chanting mantras. The fire was lit by M D of the College, Hari Singh Chib; Principal Dr K K Tiwari along with all staff members and the students. The folk songs were sung by students on the occasion. Principal of the College threw light on the importance of the festival. Prashad like groundnuts, rewari etc were distributed among the students on the occasion.
On the eve of Lohri, an impressive function was organized at Maharaja Hari Singh DAV Public Higher Secondary School in which Chairman of the institution, Romesh Sharma was the chief guest. Tiny scholars of the institution clad in colourful dresses were seen taking bamboras (colourfully designed shapes) and dancing around on the occasion. Durgesh Nandini, principal of the institution narrated the students the importance of festival Lohri. The senior students presented dance performances on various songs including Lohri songs. The students also spoke on the importance of Lohri. In the end, the Lohri was burnt and Aahuti was given in the school premises by all including chairman of the institution.
JK Montessorie Senior Secondary School and its affiliated unit, JK Millennium Play School celebrated Lohri with religious fervor and enthusiasm. The celebration started with interactive session with the school children and teachers about the background and importance of Lohri. A Bamboora competition was organized for the students of classes 2nd and 3rd to explore their hidden talents and skills. Later, Rajni Gupta, Director Academics and Vice Principal, Geeta Dixit, distributed Nuts, Rewari and Chidwa among the students.
Dogra Higher Secondary School, Shastri Nagar (Jammu) celebrated Lohri with great enthusiasm. Principal, Davinder Kour and vice-principal, Nirmala Koul, threw light on the rituals related to Lohri festival. The groundnuts, popcorns and sweets were distributed among the students and staff members. A colourful cultural programme was also presented by the students of the school. MD of the school, Gambhir Dev Singh, greeted all the staff members and students a very happy Lohri.
On the eve of Lohri, a Dancing competition was organized in May Fair Higher Secondary School, Chand Nagar. Around 50 students of Nursery to class 3rd took part in the competition and performed on different songs with great excitement. The winners were awarded with medals and certificates by Director of the School, Abhay Basur.
Lohri the “Bonfire Festival” was celebrated with pomp and show at Luthra Public School, Talab Tillo (Jammu). The students as well as dignitaries put forth their views on the festival and other advantages of it for the furtherance of peace and love across the country. The Principal of the school concluded with the message that we should endeavour to put all the efforts to spread love and peace so as to mark this universe a place worth living. The students also presented various cultural items on the occasion.
The poems, speeches and songs by various houses of the school marked 115st Birth Anniversary of Swami Vivekanand at Vishwa Bharati Public Higher Secondary School Akalpur Morh, Jammu. On the occasion, Blooming Buds of the school celebrated the festival Lohri with bonfire and went round it with joy elation. Principal of the school, Annapurna Kaul greeted everybody and before the close of the programme stressed upon everybody to follow the teachings of Swami Vivekananda.
National Youth Day was celebrated in the premises of ‘NITL’ Higher Secondary School, Udhampur with great enthusiasm. Principal, Ajay Gupta was the chief guest on the occasion. The Students of different classes spoke on the life history of Swami Vivekananda. The principal gave an impressive speech on the topic ‘Today’s youth & degradation in moral values’ and advised the students to follow the path of Swami Vivekananda.
Lohri was celebrated in SGGS Public Higher Secondary School, Kunjwani Talab, Jammu with zeal and enthusiasm. Students from Nursery to Class 12th participated in the function and presented colourful programmes related to lohri. Special attraction was Bhangra and Skit. Principal of the school, Gurtaj Singh congratulated the students and staff on pious festival of lohri and threw light on the importance of festival. Chairman, Guru Nanak College of Education, Prof Harbans Singh and Charanjeet Kaur, administrator of the school were also present.
National Youth Day was celebrated by the students of Lawrence Public School on the occasion of Birth Anniversary of Swami Vivekananda. The occasion was marked by a symposium, recitations, essay writing competition, poster making etc. The students also spoke about the philosophies, teachings and ideas of the Swami Vivekananda. Later, the students pledged to follow the way of life and ideas of Swami Vivekananda with the aim of making a better future of our country.
SM Jain Higher Secondary School, Jammu celebrated Lohri with escalated enthusiasm and gaiety. A six-member team of students from Korea also visited the school and interacted with the staff and students. In this connection, an impressive function was organized in the school campus under the chairmanship of the president, Jain Educational Trust, Sunil Jain. After the Omkar mantra, bonfire was lit and captivating cultural programme, skits, dances, poems and speeches were presented by the students. The principal, Kulwant Singh stressed upon the need of preserving pristine cultural heritage in spite of seeking modern education.
Shiksha Niketan Senior Secondary School, Jeevan Nagar, celebrated the festival of Lohri with great enthusiasm. The students along with teachers danced around the fire singing Lohri songs. Principal, Rameshwar Mengi and in-charge, Nirmal Sharma, also participated in the function and threw light on the importance of the festival. The nuts and other eatables were distributed among the students and staff members.
SM Shishu Niketan Higher Secondary School, Anand Nagar, Patta Bohri (Jammu) celebrated Lohri, the harvest festival with religious fervor. Allt he students and staff members gathered around the bonfire sang songs and danced on the beats of drums. Managing Director of the school, Parneesh Mahajan and principal, Sunita Koul while speaking on the occasion threw light on the importance of the festival, which is the symbol of brotherhood, peace and love.
The Lohri was also celebrated in Dewan Devi Higher Secondary School, Rajpura. Cultural items were presented by the students on the occasion. The chairman of the school, Subhash Chander Suri, greeted the students on the festival and threw light on its importance. Later, groundnuts and sweets were distributed to the students by the management of the school.
Navyug Higher Secondary School, celebrated Lohri with a lot of exuberance and fanfare. The function started with speeches in Hindi and English highlighting the importance of the festival. The students and teachers sang songs immersed in rich cultural folklore of Punjab. Principal, Chander Kanta greeted the students and encouraged the students to value their cultural heritage. The children danced around the holy bonfire and offered their prayers for the prosperity of nation.
The Bonfire festival was also celebrated by Kartar Public School Barnoti, Kathua. Nirmaljit Singh, AMN chairman, KPS, was the chief guest. Manjula Dogra, principal, Harpreet Kour, secretary, KPS, were also present on the occasion. The students presented various types of cultural programmes including dances and songs on Lohri. The AMN chairman while speaking on the occasion congratulated one and all on the eve of Lohri.
Vidya Bharti School, Reasi also celebrated the festival of Lohri and 115th Birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda in their school premises. The students along with teachers and other staff members gathered around the bonfire and sang songs of Lohri. Earlier, District president, Vivekananda Samiti, Vikrant Mengi gave a speech on the philosophies and teachings of Swami Vivekananda and the advised the students to follow the teachings of Swami Ji.
Lohri festival was celebrated at Government Girls Middle School, Kabir Colony, in which staff and students participated with zeal. Sweets were distributed among the students. The participants prayed for unity and peace in the State.

The celebration began with a special assembly, where the house captain enlightened the students and teachers about Lohri festival. Lohri festival was celebrated at Rich Harvest School, Bari Brahmana. The festival started with special assembly in which importance of the festival was discussed by creating awareness among the students. Students came attired in traditional dress. Ruchi Charak, Trustee and Sukhvarsha Mehta, Principal lit the sacred bonfire to initiate the celebration and students danced around the holy bonfire.
Paramount Convent School celebrated Lohri festival, in which students and staff members took part actively. Principal Isha Manhas lit the holy bonfire. On the occasion, students recited poems and presented dance items.
Euro Kids, Trikuta Nagar celebrated Lohri festival with pomp and show. On the occasion, a bonfire was lit by the Principal Ritu Berry of the institution. The students and staff offered prayers and danced. Principal Ritu Berry threw light on the importance of the day.
Students of Indira Kids Playway School, Janipur celebrated Lohri festival with religious fervour. A debate on the importance of Lohri festival was held, in which students participated with enthusiasm. Atlast, prizes were distributed among the winners.
Kidzee, celebrated Lohri festival at Anand Nagar, Talab Tillo, Gandhi Nagar and Channi Himmat. Students attired in colourful dressed assembled around the holy bonfire and sang traditional songs. The celebrations concluded with folk songs.

Playway Higher Secondary School, Ghomanasa Road, Pounichak celebrated National Youth Day. A speech was delivered by Jattin Deep and Adarsh Sharma on the life and achievements of Swami Vivekananda. Coordinator of the school Arun Ambardar also threw light on the life of Swami Vivekananda.
Sahai Group of Companies and 92.7 Big FM organized a cultural programme on ‘Kudian Di Lohri’, here today. The theme of the celebration was ‘Girl is a cause for celebration-celebrate the spirit of women empowerment’. Divisional Commissioner, Shantmanu was the chief guest and Secretary, Wives Welfare Association, Arunima Sinha was the guest of honour on the occasion, who presented mementoes to Rahul Sahai and Rupika Sahai, Chairman and Director of Sahai Group of Companies respectively for organizing the programme. On the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda and National Integration Tour jointly organized by SEIL J&K Chapter and Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), a public reception function was organized at Tourist Reception Centre, Jammu, which was attended by a large number of students and prominent citizens of Jammu. On the occasion, Dr Jitendra Singh, Minister PMO, Government of India was the chief guest and Dr Nagesh Thakur, National president ABVP was the guest of honour. Programme was specially organized for the SEIL delegates from north eastern states, who are on National Integration Tour in Jammu for 3 days.
Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) celebrated National Youth Day with zeal and enthusiasm today at district Reasi. An impressive rally was organized by the members from Chowk Chabutra to Bus Stand. Sweets were distributed among all on the occasion.
A special literary-cum-cultural evening was arranged by Dogri Sanstha to celebrate Lohri festival at Dogri Bhawan Karan Nagar, here. Renowned Dogri poets recited their poems reflecting varied asopects of Dogra culture and traditions. The Sanstha Bhavan reverberated with the songs of Lohri sung on the occasion around the bonfire. Chhatrapal, president Dogri Sanstha highlighted the cultural significance of Lohri and merrying traditions of this seasonal festival. Dr CM Seth, renowned environmentalist presided over the function. The function was conducted by Dr Chanchal Bhasin, Literary Secretary of the Sanstha.
As part of Lohri festival celebrations, Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages today organized a multilingual Mushaira in the K L Saigal Hall, Jammu. Padamshree Dr Jitendra Udhampuri, prominent poet, scholar and intellectual presided over the function. Haroon Rashid, Secretary and Dr Arvinder Singh Amn, Additional Secretary were also present on the occasion. In order to celebrate Lohri festival, a programme was organized by All J&K Senior Citizen’s Welfare Council at Day Care Centre Raika Labana of Ramgarh area in district Samba, which was presided over by president of Welfare Council Raj Sharma, here today. During the function the old age persons danced on Lohri songs and while burning fire. K K Gandotra and Ravinder Kour were present during the programme.
GS Accounts Institute paid tributes to the Swami Vivekananda and celebrated his birthday as the National Youth Day, here today. Students led by chairman-cum-Senior Faculty Member, Girish Sharma along with the Ravinder Kumar Sr. Faculty and all the staff members of the Institute lightened the traditional lamp at Institute premises and offered garland to Swami Ji. On the eve of Lohri, Nat Manch presented Dogri short film titled ‘Aao Lohri Mannache’ at Shakti Nagar, here today. The film has been written, produced and directed by Tarun Sharma under the banner of Nat Manch. The film is based on the festival of Lohri. The actors who performed in this film included Tarun Sharma, Rahul Kumar, Mohit Sharma, Rishav Salgotra, Nikhil Sharma, Rajinder Kumar Sharma, Rahul Verma, Prabha Devi and Nikhil Verma. Sarv Dharm Rashtriya Ekta Manch celebrated 151th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda as the National Youth Day, here today. Chairman of the Manch, Vikram Singh along with senior members Pankaj Gupta, Neeraj Gupta, Raghav Singh and Pawan Gupta offered prayers at Purani Mandi.
Earlier the programme started with recitation of verses of the Rashtriya Gaan and Bhajan. Programme Coordinator Shalini Kumari presented welcome address and also threw light on the importance of the day.
Thought, intellect, energy, music and passion, the traits of the Youth were all on display and in abundance in the RKJ Youth Fest organized by Radio Kashmir Jammu in the premises of GCW Parade on the occasion of National Youth Day, the Birth Anniversary of Swami Vivekananda, here today. A brain child of the Station Director, V K Sambyal, the programme was professionally executed by Renu Bhatt and Sumit Sharma. In his welcome address, Mr Sambyal stressed upon the need of youth participation in the decision making but also cautioned the youth about the various threats and challenges. He threw the house open to all the participants and wished the best in their life. Principal GCW Parade, Prof Hemla Aggarwal thanked Radio Kashmir Jammu for bringing this event and radio to the doorsteps of the College and providing the youth an opportunity to participate in broadcasting.
