JAMMU, Jan 13: Two day long Lohri Festival concluded with lightening of traditional fire by Commissioner Secretary Tourism Shailender Kumar at Raghunath Bazar Chowk, here today.
The festival was organized by the Tourism Department in collaboration with various Business Associations to showcase the unique and rich cultural heritage of Jammu and to promote cultural tourism in the State.
The heritage Raghunath Bazar wore a festive look with ethnic food stalls, cultural show, dandia and beautiful illumination.
In the evening, a procession was flagged off from Sabzi Mandi Parade Chowk and the procession culminated at Raghunath Bazar. The main attractions of the procession were Dhol, Narsingha, Chajja, Haran, and Kudd dance, besides recitation of Sanskrit Hymns by scholars from Sanskrit Vidyalaya.
At Raghunath Bazar Chowk, artists presented short skits depicting the traditional Lohri festival, which is celebrated to bid good bye to the cold season.
A good number of people were present on the occasion who witnessed the cultural programmes presented by the artists.
Director Tourism Jammu R. K. Varma, Joint Director Tourism Narupa Rai, Deputy Director Tourism Vinakshi Koul, Secretary JKAACL Haroon Rashid, Chairman Paryatan Vikas Mandal Ravi Mahajan, Chairman IATO Jammu Chapter Captain Atul Gour, president Tourism Promotion Council V. K. Sehgal, and president Raghunath Bazar Ved Khullar were among the prominent persons who attended the function.
