JAMMU, Jan 14: Unnati will lock horns with Pranjal and Piyush will take on Nakul in the finals of under-10 boys and girls categories of 41 J&K State Badminton Championship, being organized by Jammu and Kashmir Badminton Association at Police Badminton Hall, here.
In under-10 girls singles, Unnati beat Riya and Ananya lost to Pranjal. Unnati and Pranjal will lock horns in the finals tomorrow.
In under-10 boys singles, Shaourya of Udhampur lost to Piyush, Vidhan beat Nakul and Piyush defeated Peehar. Piyush and Nakul will clash in finals tomorrow.
In under-13 girls singles, Komal beat Nidhi, Satuti lost to Sharuti and Harsha lost to Ayushi Jamwal, whereas in boys’ category, Sidharth crushed Sohail, Suraj lost to Aryan, Puranjay beat Yashdeep and Vidhan lost to Pranjal.
In under-13 boys doubles, Vidhant and Sidharth crushed Suraj and Pehush by straight 2-0 sets and sailed into next round.
In under-15 boys singles, Savinay beat Aman, Shivam crushed Sukhpreet, Mohit lost to Aryan Nagpal, Adity lost to Vidhant, Sayam beat Prajwal, Naman lost Aesh, Nakul lost to Yashandra and Ashutosh lost to Amil.
In under-15 boys doubles, Sayam and Aditya beat Aman and Arjun by 2-0 sets and qualified for next stage.
In under-15 girls singles, Kajal lost to Swati and Rashmi beat Sharuti. Swati and Rashmi sailed into next round.
In under-17 boys singles, Divum Gupta beat Aryan Nagpal and Savinay lost to Amit. Divum Gupta will lock horns in finals against Amit.
Earlier, IGP Jammu Zone, Rajesh Kumar inaugurated the tournament and interacted with the participating players. SS Wazir, president, J&K Badminton Association, Dr OD Sharma, general secretary, Balbir Jamwal, secretary, Jammu District Badminton Association and Mohammad Irfan Ullah, secretary, Pulwama District Badminton Association were also present on the occasion.
The matches were officiated by Satpal Sharma, SAI Coach and Vikram Jawmal, SAI Coach.
The championship is being organized to select J&K team for the Senior National Badminton Championship to be held at Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh from January 29 to February 5.
The Championship would be played in different categories–men singles and doubles, women singles and doubles, mixed doubles, junior (U-19) boys singles and doubles, junior (U-19) girls singles and doubles, U-17 boys singles and doubles, U-17 girls singles and doubles, sub junior (U-15) boys singles and doubles, sub junior (U-15) girls singles and doubles, mini (U-13) boys singles and doubles, mini (U-13) girls singles and doubles and U-10 boys and girls singles.
The Championship is being organized by J&K Badminton Association under the supervision of Balbir Jamwal, organizing secretary of the Championship.
