JAMMU, Jan 15: In order to review the arrangements for celebrations of 5th National Voter’s Day, which would be observed on January 25, a meeting was held with the Nodal Officers of all the districts through video conference, here today.
The meeting was conducted by the Election Consultant, Harcharan Singh in the office of Chief Electoral Officer, J&K here this afternoon.
It was impressed upon all the Nodal Officers to make necessary arrangements for the celebration of national event across the State to achieve the objective of the National Voter’s Day. The theme of the National Voter’s Day is “Easy Registration-Easy Correction” in the electoral rolls by the electors.
The points which came under discussion included, distribution of Election Photo Identity Cards (EPICs), badges to the voters through BLOs at booth level, to ensure participation of ERO/AEROs in the functions to be organized at different levels, involvement of Panchayati Raj Institutions, educational institutions, civil society, youth and volunteers like NSS, Scouts and Guides, NYKs and electronic and print media etc.
The emphasis was laid on organization of special camps to facilitate the electors to surrender duplicate registration by filling up requisite form and creation of general awareness amongst the electors for massive participation in the elections and importance of vote. It was impressed upon the Nodal Officers to give wide publicity about these activities and National Voter’s Day through print, electronic media in their respective jurisdictions so that the electors can avail benefits of the camps.
To encourage the women folk for larger participation in the election process, the Nodal Officers were asked to conduct regular SVEEP programmes for the women with special focus on the newly married women to register themselves at their place of marriage and deletion of their names from previous rolls. The BLOs should be sensitized to register the women through ASHA workers and Anganwadi workers.
The Nodal Officers of all the districts briefed about the celebration of event and arrangements thereof to make the event a success as also to highlight the importance of the day. It was informed in the meeting that the event will be celebrated at 3800 locations across the State with the large participation of various stakeholders.
