Kotwal inspects work on WSS Katra

REASI, Jan 17: Commissioner/ Secretary PHE, I&FC Dr Pawan Kotwal, accompanied by Chief Engineer PHE Jammu, Er. Sushil Aima, Superintending Engineer Hydraulic Circle Udhampur Er. Someswar Mengi, Executive Engineer PHE Division Reasi, Er. Kuldeep Magotra and other field engineers had an extensive tour of WSS Katra Town (Dhansar) sanctioned under STFJ for an estimated cost of Rs 47.42 crore.
The project with its source at Baba Dhansar Springs comprises of four stages at Karwa, Garan Top, Chral (Hut) and Hanshali, each stage being comprises of sump reservoir of 2.00 lakh capacity, pumping station with two main pumps of 300 HP with one standby pump and other Electro-mechanical equipments, electric substation with 1.00 lakh/ hour capacity Filtration Plant at stage Ist-Karwa.
For providing un-interrupted power supply to various pumping stations of the scheme, a special 2.5 MVA transformer has been got installed at receiving station Tarakote near Katra.
The scheme after completion shall cater to the water requirement of local population of Katra town as well as ever increasing inflow of pilgrimage to the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Ji till 2040 by adding 16.00 lacs gallons of water daily to the available resources.
As on date, most of the vital components of the scheme like intake structure at Dhansar, Filtration Plant of 1.00 lakh gallons/hour, installation of Electro-mechanical equipments, sump reservoir of 2.00 lakh gallons capacity, electric substation at all the stages, four Over head tanks and water transport pipe network besides distribution network have been completed by expending Rs 38.04 crore.
Commissioner/ Secretary Dr Pawan Kotwal inspected all the stations right from Source to Hanshali and issued on spot instructions to field engineers to expedite the balance work of the project with special focus on quality aspect within shortest possible time besides acquisition of land so that benefit of the scheme are provided to the public.
