JAMMU, Jan 17: Khalsa XI and Samar Club registered wins in their respective quarterfinals to seal berths in the semifinals of the ongoing 3rd Christmas Twenty-20 Cricket Cup for College students and J&K cricketers at Parade Cricket ground, here today.
The tournament is being organized under the supervision of Shakeel Ahmed Beig, DIG Jammu and Fr Kuriakose, chairman Christian Sports Organisation, Jammu and Rajesh Gill, former Ranji Trophy player is the organizing secretary of the Tournament.
Earlier, in the first match, Khalsa XI defeated Tanishta Club in a thrilling contest by 1 run.
Batting first, Khalsa XI scored 138 runs in the stipulated 20 overs, losing 9 wickets in the process. Mincal (44), Harinder (15) and Prithvi (14) were the main scorers. Sahil Sharma and Ashu took 2 wickets each for Tanishta Club, while Sumit and Deepak Manhas claimed 1 wicket each.
Tanishta XI, in reply failed to achieve the target as it fell just shot of 1 run, scoring 137 runs for the loss of 9 wickets, thus lost the match by 1 run. Ishan top scored with 42 runs, while Sahil Sharma and Ashu chipped in with 16 and 14 runs. Prithvi took 4 wickets, Dutta bagged 2 wickets, while Nitin and Kalu claimed 1 wicket each for Khalsa Club. Prithvi was declared as man of the match.
In the second match, Samar Club trounced RCC Srinagar by a narrow margin of 9 runs.
Batting first, Samar Club made 141 runs in 20 overs for the loss of 6 wickets. Hardeep Singh top scored with valuable 62 runs, while Raman Singh contributed with 43 runs to the total. Kuldeep and Aman took 2 wickets each, while Satish and Sourav claimed 1 wicket each.
In reply, RCC Srinagar managed to score 132 runs in 19 overs, thus lost the match by 9 runs. Sham was the top scorer with 36 runs, while Satish and Amit contributed 31 and 29 runs to the total respectively. K K was the pick of the bowlers who scalped 3 important wickets, while Amar took 2 wickets. Hardeep Singh, Udhay and Rohit shared 1 wicket each. Hardeep Singh was adjudged as man of the match for his brilliant innings.
The matches were officiated by Suhail Yusuf, Nitu Khokher, Sanju, Vinod and Farooq.
In tomorrow’s fixture, Khalsa Cricket Club will take on Samar Cricket Club in the first semifinal at 9.30 am, while JKP XI will face Sarveshwar Cricket Club at 1 pm.
