UDHAMPUR, Jan 17: In an effort to generate awareness among the masses against female foeticide, a symposium and film show titled “Save the Girl Child” were organized by the Health Department under National Health Mission J&K in collaboration with Department of Information and Public Relations Udhampur at Government Higher Secondary School Boys, Udhampur here today.
District Development Commissioner, Udhampur, Yasha Mudgal was the chief guest on the occasion.
As many as 14 participants of the host school deliberated upon the topic and expressed their concern over the declining sex ratio in the district.
Speaking on the occasion, DDC highlighted the importance of girl child and menace of declining sex ratio and mal practice of sex determination. She urged upon the students to spread awareness among the general masses for uprooting the menace of female foeticide from the society. She also stressed to impart moral education to the students right from the primary stage to develop a society free from social evils.
During the programme lectures were also delivered by the Programme Officer, State Health Society, Dr. Bharat Bushan Sharma and Chief Medical Officer, Udhampur, Dr. Arun Sharma.
Principal of the school, Sunil Sharma thanked the organizers for organizing such a impressive programme in the school and said that such programmes should be held on regular basis in future to aware the people.
On the occasion, a film show on ‘save the girl child’ was also screened by the Information Department to highlight the importance of generating awareness among the masses regarding the negative social impact of declining sex ratio.
Mohammad Raqib was declared best speaker while Munishwar Sharma and Ajay Sharma secured second and third positions respectively. Besides three consolation prizes were also given to Anil Dev Singh, Tanveer Khan and Romesh Singh. The participants were awarded prizes and certificate of merit on the occasion.
