Three-day pulse polio immunization drive commences across State

JAMMU, Jan 18: The first phase of the three-day pulse polio immunization drive commenced today across the State.
Member Parliament (MP) Jammu-Poonch Parliamentary constituency Jugal Kishore Sharma in presence of MLA Vijaypur Chander Prakash inaugurated first phase of pulse polio immunization programme at Government Emergency Hospital Vijaypur. SDM Vijaypur Dr Naresh Gupta, BMO Ramgarh and DC Samba were also present.
District Development Commissioner (DDC), Udhampur, Yasha Mudgal inaugurated 3-days pulse polio immunization drive by administering Oral Polio vaccine to a baby in the District hospital. Later, DDC paid a round of different units of the district hospital. Chief Medical Officer, Dr Arun Sharma, Medical Superintendent, Dr Chander Parkash, Deputy Chief Medical Officer, Dr Santosh Sharma, staff members, volunteers and ASHA works were present during the programme.
On the instructions of Commissioner/Secretary to Government Social Welfare, Health and Medical Education Department Gazanffar Hussain, more than 19,000 Children in the age group of 0 to 5 years affiliated with Creche Centres, run by J&K State Social Welfare Board, were administered pulse polio drops today at various Health Centres across the State. Executive Director and Secretary J&K State Social Welfare Board Aamir Ali said that the Board is running 750 Crèche Centres across J&K for children between the age group of 0-6 years belonging to very poor, BPL or AAY families.
First round pulse polio programme was inaugurated by SDM Katra Anil Chandel in the presence of Dy CMO Reasi Dr KC Dogra, BMO Katra Dr Gopal Dutt and staff members in CHC Katra.
42 Rasthriya Rifles battalion at Tral under the aegis of Chinar Corps and Victor Force facilitated the pulse polio immunization programme on National Immunization Day by establishing a medical camp at Boys Higher Secondary School Bajwani Tral which included an immunization booth. A team of Army doctor and civil community health workers from SDH Tral attended the camp with an aim to provide free immunization to children below 5 years of age. The camp also catered for free medical checkup of the populace, especially low income group and weaker section of society.
Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Mendhar Ramesh Kumar inaugurated 3-day pulse polio immunization Campaign (PPIC) for 0-5 years age group children at Sub District Hospital Mendhar in presence of Block Medical Officer Mendhar Dr Parvaiz Ahmed Khan and other functionaries of the Health Department.
A pulse polio immunization camp was organised by 76 BN CRPF at Sector 6 and Sector 7 in Channi Himmat under the supervision of Commandant Vikram Singh Thakur. Medical Officer of the Battalion Dr Supinder Singh along with his team administered polio drops to about 290 children by visiting door-to-door in the area.
Army organised a pulse polio immunization Booth at Domel for children below five years of Tehsil Bhadarwah as part of assistance to civil administration. A medical team comprising of a Medical Officer and two Nursing Assistants of Rashtriya Rifles located at Bhadarwah alongwith one civilian doctor and medical representatives of BMO, Bhadarwah provided their services. A total of 223 children were immunized with pulse polio drops during the programme.
District Officer ISM (AYUSH) Jammu, Dr Davinder Gupta inaugurated pulse polio immunization campaign at Government ISM Dispensary/Urban Health Centre, Talab Khatikan. Dr Gupta also paid visits to various pulse polio immunization booths.
MLA RS Pura Dr Gagan Bhagat started pulse polio campaign at Community Health Centre RS Pura in presence of BMO RS Pura and other Health Department officials. Later, Dr Gagan Bhagat visited other polio booths in RS Pura.
Director Health Services, Kashmir, Saleem-Ur-Rehman inaugurated the first phase of pulse polio programme at Jawahar Lal Nehru Memorial Hospital Srinagar. In Srinagar district, 177638 children were covered under this programme and 645 vaccination booths were identified for the purpose besides 2654 employees were deputed for the immunization programme. Likewise, in Ganderbal district 39367 children were administered pulse polio drops and 229 booths were set up and 936 employees were deputed for conducting the programme. In Bandipora district, 60459 children were administered vaccination drops at 335 booths with 1344 staff members deployed for the programme. In district Baramulla as many as 790 pulse polio immunization Centres were setup to cover the 151454 children upto age group of 5 years and 3024 employees were deployed for this programme. Similarly, in district Anantnag, 159614 children have been covered under this programme for which 3082 polio booths were set up and 2540 employees were deployed.
In addition the pulse polio immunization was also conducted in Kulgam district where 91596 children were covered under this programme for which 520 pulse polio centres were established and 2080 employees were deputed.
In Kupwara district, 134000 children were administered pulse polio drops in 720 centres and 2880 para medical employees deployed for this purpose.
In Shopian district, 42520 children were also administered the pulse polio drops in 213 booths set up for this purpose and 852 employees were engaged for this work. In Budgam district 98530 children were covered under the programme for which 2440 employees were deployed.
MLA Suchetgarh Sham Lal Choudhary took part in pulse polio camp at Primary Health Centre, Chakroi in which he administered polio dose to children.
