JAMMU, Jan 19: As the five-day 30th North Zone Inter-University Youth Festival successfully concluded today, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar emerged Champion of the mega event by lifting Overall Championship Trophy while Lovely Professional University, Jallandhar was adjudged Runners-Up.
GNDU bagged Champions trophy in Dance and Fine Arts sections while in Theatrical and Literary sections, Punjab University Chandigarh lifted trophies in both the sections. Lovely Professional University clinched Champions trophy in Music section.
JU’s performance in the competition was also praise worthy as the university lifted runner up trophy in the Music section and third position in Literary activities and Fine Arts, which resulted in JU winning third position in overall championship.
Participants of JU in Western Solo, Western Group Song, Classical Vocal, Group Song Indian, Skit, Debate and Installation have qualified for the National Youth competition by securing either first or second positions in these events. JU also won third position in Elocution, Poster Making and Folk Dance competitions.
In the separate category of cultural possession, first position was bagged by University of Kashmir, which was followed by JU and Hemvati Nandhan Bahuguna University, Garhwal by securing 2nd and 3rd places respectively.
Total 25 universities from seven North Indian States participated in the five-day festival UDGOSH, during which total 25 events in five different sections were held.
The Overall Championship Trophy was awarded to GNDU on the basis of comprehensive results of individual and group items while the first and second position holders of various events of UDGOSH are qualified for the National Youth Festival to be held in Indore in February, 2015.
In event-wise results, JU secured first position in Western Solo and second position was bagged by GNDU while third place was shared by B R Ambedkar University, Agra and Lovely Professional University Jallandhar. JU also secured first place in Western Group Song while Lovely Professional University bagged second position in this event.
In Classical Instrumental (Percussion), Lovely University was adjudged first and Punjab University Patiala second. Lovely University bagged first place in Classical Instrumental (Non Percussion) also while second and third positions in this event were secured by GNDU and Punjab University Patiala, respectively.
In Light Vocal (Solo), Lovely University remained first again while second place was bagged by Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla. GNDU and BGSBU shared third place in this event.
Lovely University was also first in Classical Vocal (Solo) while JU secured second place in this event. In Folk Orchestra, Kurukshetra University bagged top place while Lovely University clinched second. In Group Song (Indian), JU was declared first and Punjab University Patiala as second.
In Theatrical section, Punjab University Chandigarh was first in Mime while Punjabi University Patiala was second in this event. In Mimicry, Lovely University was first and GNDU second while in One Act Play, Punjab University Chandigarh was adjudged first, GNDU second and Punjabi University Patiala third. In Skit, Punjabi University Patiala and JU secured first and second positions respectively.
In Literary section, Punjab University Chandigarh and KU secured first and 2nd positions, respectively in Quiz competition. In Debate, Guru Jumbeshwar University of Science and Technology, Hissar was adjudged first and JU as second. In Elocution, Punjab University Chandigarh and Deenbandhu Chotu Ram University of Science and Technology bagged first and second position, respectively while the third place was shared by JU and Dayalbagh Educational Institute Agra.
In Fine Arts section, Punjab University Chandigarh and MD University Rohtak secured first and second places, respectively in the event of Painting on the Spot while SMVDU was among four universities, which shared the third place. B R Ambedkar University Agra and GNDU bagged first and second positions, respectively in Rangoli while in Photography, Chandigarh University Mohali and GNDU were adjudged first and second respectively. GNDU was first in Cartooning and B R Ambedkar University Agra second in this event. In Poster Making, GNDU and Punjab University were first and second, respectively while JU was among three universities sharing third position. In Collage, HP University Shimla was first and Lovely University second while KU shared third position with Deenbandhu Chotu Ram University. GNDU and PTU were first and second respectively in Clay -Modeling while in Installation, JU was first and GNDU second.
In Dance section, GNDU and Punjab University Chandigarh secured first and second positions respectively while in Folk Dance, Maharishi Dayanand University Rohtak and Punjabi University Patiala were adjusted first and second, respectively. JU along with Lovely University and GNDU shared third place in this event.
Earlier, during the valedictory function, the observer appointed by All India Universities Association (AIU), gave his formal observation regarding the festival and highly appreciated JU for holding the festival in a smooth fashion.
The observer, Prof Arun Patil, who has himself remained Dean Students Welfare for 22 years, admitted that he had not seen an auditorium of this quality and magnitude in a University.
In his remark, JU Vice-Chancellor Prof R D Sharma that it was not the end of UDGOSH but beginning of new friendship discovered in these five days and fostering of the new alliances forged and nurturing hidden talent discovered in the festival.
Prof Sudhir K Jain, Vice Chancellor of SMVDU, who was chief guest on the occasion, wished expansion of the youth festival with participation increasing five fold. He also outlined the importance of cultural activities in leading a healthy and balanced life.
