Pathania demands re-starting of Udhampur DMU

RAMNAGAR, Jan 19: While taking up with the Union Railways Ministry the issue of re-start of cancelled DMU from Udhampur to Jammu, R S Pathania, MLA-elect from Ramnagar, has sought immediate re-starting of the DMU from Udhampur to Jammu as daily commuters on this route have been worst affected by cancellation of train.
The lop-sided and unilateral decision of Northern Railways to all-of-a-sudden cancel the said train has been just like a bolt from the blue sparking off unseen hue and cry from all quarters in the district of Udhampur, Mr Pathania said in a statement.
He has also demanded initiation of as many as five new DMUs, exclusively from Udhampur to Jammu as DMUs from Katra to Jammu are already over-crowded and when passengers from Udhampur, Ramnagar & Manwal board the train, there is scarcely a room/sitting space left for them.  And daily commuters, particularly women and old/infirm passengers have to pass through embarrassing moments in these overcrowded trains while travelling to Jammu, he added.
Mr Pathania has also appealed to Ministry to immediately start double-lane rail-line from Jammu to Udhampur so that to and fro trains are able to simultaneously run on Jammu-Udhampur rail-line.  He has also sought formulation of an Advisory Council by Northern Railways with respectable citizens from Udhampur and Ramnagar and top-level officers of Northern Railways so that public feedback and public response is able to guide smooth functioning of train-traffic from Udhampur to Jammu.
The MLA also demanded stopping of Uttar Sampark Kranti train at Manwal as Delhi-bound passengers of Manwal have to go to Udhampur or Ramnagar to board it.  He rather demanded stop-over of all trains/A-C trains to act as DMUs from Udhampur to Jammu.
