KATHUA, Jan 20: Team effort helped formidable Gateway Cricket Club Srinagar to drub Manwal Cricket Club by a margin of 43 runs to advance in the ongoing 5th Police Martyrs Memorial North Zone Inter-Club T20 Cricket Tournament at Sports Stadium, here today.
Earlier, winning the toss and batting first, Gateway Cricket Club scored a decent total of 168 runs in the stipulated 20 overs, on otherwise a bowling friendly strip, losing 6 wickets in the process. Manzoor Ahmed scored quick-fire 17-ball 48 runs, studded with 3 fours and 5 sixes, while Sakir and Khalid Khan contributed with 27 and 22 runs respectively. For Manwal Cricket Club, Deepak And Ranju took 2 wickets each, while Chahat claimed one.
In reply, Manwal Cricket Club was bundled out for 125 runs in 18 overs, thus lost the match by 43 runs. Ranju top scored with 41 runs off 24 balls, including 6 fours and one six, while Chahat contributed 27 runs to the total. For Gateway Club, Nadeem took 3 wickets by conceding 15 runs in his 2 overs, while Asif Rasool bagged 2 wickets by giving away 15 runs in his 3 overs and Ishtiaq claimed 2 wickets by spending 21 runs in his 4 overs. Manzoor Ahmed of Gateway Cricket Club Srinagar was adjudged as man of the match for his superb knock. He was awarded a cash prize of Rs 1000 and a trophy.
KCCC Jammu defeated HDFC Chandigarh by 24 runs in other match earlier, with Rohit Bhatt claiming man of the match award for his valuable contribution of 50 runs, fetching him a cash prize of Rs 1000 and a trophy.
In another match played yesterday evening, Gateway Srinagar drubbed PSP Corporation Ltd Patiala by 23 runs, with Manzoor Ahmed of Gateway Club getting the man of the match award for his all-round show. He was presented a cash prize of Rs 1000 and a trophy by the organizers.
In tomorrow’s fixture, Maharana Pratap Yamuna Nagar will take on JKP XI in the first match, while in the 2nd match Sabi Cricket Club will lock horns with Poonch Sports Club in the evening session.
