LUCKNOW: Top seed Saina Nehwal clinched the women singles title in the Sayeed Modi International badminton championship here today.
In a hard fought match Saina beat second seed and world champion Carolina Marin of Spain in three sets of 19-21, 25-23 and 21-16 in one hour and 19 minutes. Saina lost the first set and was trailing in the second but managed to beat the Spainard. In the final sets Saina got her form and beat Carolina comfortably.
Saina received a cash prize of $9000 while Carolina got $4560. In the women doubles final fourth seeded pair of Amelia Alicia Anscelly and Fie Cho Soong of Malaysia beat top seed pair of Vivian Kah Mun Hoo and Khe Wei Woon, also of Malaysia by 22-20 and 21-15 in just 49 minutes.
The winning pair take home $9480 while the runner-up pair gets $4560.
