JAMMU, Feb 2: Commerce College and Young Star Club registered convincing victories to advance in the ongoing 3rd Christmas Soccer Championship for College students and Jammu and Kashmir footballers, being organized jointly by Christian Sports Organization and J&K Police at Science College football ground, here.
The tournament, being played under the slogan “Be Healthy-Don’t Do Drugs” is being organized under the supervision of Shakeel Ahmed Beig, DIG Jammu and Fr Kuriakose, Chairman Christian Sports Organization. The tournament is being sponsored by Federal Bank, South Indian Bank, Canara Bank and J&K Police.
The first match was played between Commerce College and Hiranagar Club, wherein Commerce College won by three goals to one (3-1). Ankit Gupta of Commerce College scored the first goal in 23rd minute, while Vinod and Sahil Partap netted 2nd and 3rd goals in 27th and 63th minutes respectively. For Hiranagar Club the solitary goal was scored by Sachin Khajuria.
In another match played today, Young Star defeated East United Club by two goals to one (2-1). Tasni of Young Star Club scored first goal in 43rd minute and the second goal was scored by Kavish in 63rd minute, while the East United scored one goal through Vikas in 15th minutes.
The matches were officiated by Harnit Singh, Ranjay Kumar, Javed Ahmed, Bilal Ahmad and Feroz Ahmed, while R P Singh and Victor Sotra were the commentators.
Asif Gill and David Mattoo are the organizing secretaries, football coach Gagan is the Incharge officiating team and Rajesh Gill, Chief Prosecuting Officer is the coordinator of the Championship.
