JAMMU, Feb 2: Outplaying Government Medical College (GMC) in a close contest by 2 wickets in quarterfinals, Government Degree College (GDC) Poonch entered the last four stage of the ongoing Inter-Collegiate Cricket Tournament, being organized by the Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu at Varsity grounds, here.
Earlier, put into bat first, GMC scored 137 runs in the stipulated 20 overs, losing 7 wickets during the process. Rahil top scored with 25 runs, while Navneet, Nasir, Sawan, Danish and Gulam scored 21, 18, 16 and 16 runs respectively. For GDC Poonch, Zahid Ali, Riaz Ahmed, Jahanzab and Owais claimed one wicket each.
In reply, GDC Poonch scored the required runs in 19.3 overs by losing 8 wickets, thus won the match by 2 wickets. Kartik Raina (42) and Amit (34) were the main scorers, while Ansar and Zahid Ali contributed 18 and 11 runs to the total respectively. Raman was the pick of the bowlers for GMC Jammu, who scalped 4 important wickets by conceding 26 runs in his 4 overs, while Danish, Sawan Singh and Nasir shared one wicket apiece.
Now in the semifinals, GDC Rajouri will take on GDC Ramnagar, while GDC Bhaderwah will face GDC Poonch.
