RAJOURI, Feb 6: Naoshera Day was celebrated today to commemorate the sacrifice made by Naik Jadunath Singh, PVC and other martyrs who laid down their lives while fighting the Pakistani raiders during the 1947-48 operations.
The event was celebrated befitting the military traditions and was attended by Army Commander, Northern Command, General Officer Commanding, White Knight Corps, Gen Officer Commanding, Ace of Spades Division and many dignitaries from the civil administration. Relatives of Naik Jadunath Singh, PVC were also present during the celebrations.
The event commenced with a wreath laying ceremony at the Jadunath Memorial, where wreaths were laid by all visiting military dignitaries and relatives of Naik Jadunath Singh, PVC. The military pageants commenced with fanfare by the buglers to welcome the chief guest, Lt Gen DS Hooda, Army Commander, Northern Command followed by a colourful cultural programme by school children from the local schools.
Lt Col Manish Mehta informed that Bal Sainiks, decorated war veterans, Veer Naries, meritorious dependents of veterans, mine casualty victims, families of 8 deceased porters, Operation Megh Rahat flood victims and economically weaker sections of the society/ Veterans were felicitated along with the relatives of Naik Jadunath Singh, PVC. Two civil mine casualties from the brigades area of responsibility were presented with cheques of Rs 1.5 lakh each and Operation Megh Rahat flood victims with blankets and tarpaulins.
A painting and essay writing competition was also organised besides the Naoshera Cup Volleyball tournament. The participants of the competition were also awarded. The chief guest lauded and acknowledged the bravery and sacrifice of Naik Jadunath Singh, PVC who is and always will be the guiding beacon for the forces and will continue to inspire the Indian Army to imbibe and follow the customs and traditions of valour. He also conveyed heartfelt greetings to the Bal Sainiks, Veer Naris and Awam of Naoshera who have made unparalleled sacrifices to maintain the sovereignty and integrity of the Nation.
