Dogri translation of ‘Julius Caesar’

Sir,
This refers to the news item,’Shakespeare’s  Julius Caesar in Dogri released’ (DE,Feb21,2015). It is really appreciable that Dogri translation of Shakespeare’ s world classic’ Julius Caesar'(the complete title is’The Tragedy of Julius Caesar) rendered by Madan Gopal Padha, was released at Jammu the other day.Julius Caesar is one of the many historical plays of the great bard,William Shakespeare, based on the true events from Roman history. The play believed to have been written in 1599, was first performed between 1600 and1601.
The play set in the twin Italian cities of Verona and Mantua, dramatises the actual events when Caesar was assassinated in 44B.C.The play has many quotations the most important of those being when at the time of his assassination Julius Caesar remarks,on seeing Brutus,’Et,tu,Brutus’ (You too, Brutus).
In producing the Dogri version of such an important Shakespearean play, the translator,Madan Gopal Padha has made an invaluable contribution to Dogri literature and his efforts need to be appreciated by one and all, especially those, connected with the literary and cultural activities. The Dogri version will surely stand in good stead for the budding artists to present such an important play on the stage in Jammu. It will also be interesting for the spectators to watch the play in their native language and thus understand it better.
It is sometimes the translated versions of plays, which trigger interest in literature as happened to me when I first went through the Hindi translation of Shakespeare’s famous tragedy ‘Othello’way back in the eighties and developed lifelong interest in literature.Mr.Padha deserves all praise for his hard work in producing the unabridged Dogri version of the great historical play’Julius Caesar’.
Yours etc….
