FS Jaishankar to travel to Pakistan on Mar 3

ISLAMABAD:
Foreign Secretary S Jaishankar will travel to Pakistan on March 3, seven months after India cancelled foreign secretary-level talks.
Jaishankar will hold talks with his Pakistani counterpart Azaz Ahmed Chaudhry with India maintaining that it stands ready to talk in accordance with the Simla Agreement on all issues including Jammu & Kashmir.
His visit comes nearly two-and-a-half years after Ranjan Mathai travelled to Islamabad to hold talks.
“We stand ready to talk with Pakistan in accordance with the Simla Agreement on all issues including J&K,” Spokesperson of the External Affairs Ministry Syed Akbaruddin said in Delhi.
“In accordance with the Prime Minister’s directive, will be undertaking a SAARC Yatra to all South Asian countries including Pakistan in March,” he said.
In an ice-breaking move earlier this month, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif after which it was announced that Jaishankar will visit Islamabad when he will “push bilateral agenda”. (AGENCIES)
