JAMMU, Feb 27: Jammu Gymkhana and Khalsa Cricket XI registered emphatic wins over their rival on the opening day to stay alive in the Jammu City T20 Cricket Cup, which got underway at Parade Ground, here today.
The tournament in which 12 teams are participating is being organized by Jammu Police under the supervision of Perbeet Singh Parihar SDPO City, under the Civic Action Programme of J&K Police Department.
Earlier, SK Chouhan, SP City Jammu in presence of Rajesh Gill , Perbjeet Singh Parihar SDPO City, Inspector K.K.Gupta SHO City,SI Farid,SI Rahul Mahajan,SI Rajesh,SI Deepak,SI Sunil Singh,SI Ashiq Lone,SI Nitin Khajuria,Vijay Saberwal,Asif Gill,Rajesh Dhar and RP Singh inaugurated the tournament during an impressive, well attended and colourful function.
While speaking on the occasion, SP City Jammu lauded the efforts of the organizers in conducting this T20 event and said that this event is a part of the Civic Action Programme of the J&K Police which involves youths of the State in different sports with the objective to channelize their energy in a right way so that they may not derail from the main stream.
Earlier, in the first match, Jammu Gymkhana defeated Mayank Goswami Cricket Academy XI by 62 runs in an easy contest.
Batting first, Jammu Symphana XI scored 128 runs in stipulated 20 overs, with Amar (33), Sahil (24) and Jagjit (11) being the main scorers. Sourav took 4 wicket s, Ajay captured 2, while Aman and Abdul also claimed one wicket each.
MGCA XI, in reply could not achieve the target and were bundled out for paltry total of 66 runs in 15 overs, thus lost the match by 62 runs. Ajay was the top scorer with 12 runs, while no other batsman could reach into the double figures. Satwant took 3 wickets, while Sahil bagged 2 wicket and Akash claimed one. Satwant was adjudged as man of the match.
In the second match, Khalsa XI scripted a thrilling win on the last ball of the match against Guru Nanak Club.
Batting first, Guru Nanak scored 103 runs in 16 overs, with K.D. (37), Rahul (18) and Gora (13) being the main scorers. Ricky took 3 wickets, Manu 2, while Vicky and Shotu shared 1 wicket each.
In reply, Khalsa Club achieved the target on the last ball with a huge six by Harneet Singh (36). Sonu (22) and Gurpreet (11) contributed for Khalsa Club.
Rahul and Sunny picked 2 wickets each, while KD and Aman shared 1 wicket each. Harneet Singh was declared the man of the match.
The matches were officiated by Sanju, Vinod Kandayara and Nitu Khokher, while Rajesh Gill is the Coordinator of the Tournament.
In tomorrow’s fixture, Jammu Tawi Cricket Club will take on Christian Sports Organization at the same venue.
