UDHAMPUR, Feb 28: To promote adventure tourism in the picturesque winter resort of Patnitop, Director Tourism Jammu, R K Varma inaugurated the carnival in presence Joint Director Tourism, Dr Nirupa Rai here today. The two days Winter Carnival is being organised by the Department of Tourism Jammu.
While speaking on the occasion, Director Tourism Jammu said that Patnitop is one of the famous hill and health resort of the country and there is a need to divert more and more tourists in this place during all seasons so that they enjoy nature’s charm.
He said that such programme would go a long way to attract more and more tourists and winter sports lovers to the picturesque destination of Patnitop.
Mr. Varma said that variety of events would be included in such festivals for the benefit of sportsmen and charm of tourists and spectators and thus helping in the growth of tourism in the State.
He said that along with Tourism fraternity there is also a special contributions from Patnitop Development Authority and Hotel Association Patnitop who actively participated in the programme.
During the carnival various winter sports activities like fun skiing, sledging and tug of war were organized at Nathatop.
For the entertainment of the visitors during the Carnival various activities were designed like Cultural programmes, fun games, winter games, Fun Skiing, Tug of War, Snow-man Building Competitions etc.
Later, Department of Tourism also gave mementoes to the participants of different sports activities.
Chief Executive Officer, PDA, Dr. Raman Kesar, Deputy Director Tourism, Veenakshi Koul, District Information Officer, Udhampur, Dr. Ashwani Hansa, Officers of Tourism and Patnitop Development Authority, visitors and sports adventure lovers were present on the occasion.
